There's a UK gameshow called Pointless, where 100 people are asked a question with multiple answers, and the aim for the panellists is to find an answer to the question with as few people remembering it as possible. If you get an answer that nobody remembered, it's a 'Pointless' answer. And in tonight's final, one of the topics was Royal Rumble winners. The contestants ended up not being able to find one of these answers, with Hulk Hogan and Bret Hart both having people who remembered them.
The answers they could have chosen to win were Hacksaw Jim Duggan, Big John Studd, Yokozuna, Lex Luger, Vince McMahon, and... Alberto Del Rio.
Now, most of those were in the 80s and 90s, and in the case of Luger and McMahon, most people will remember the ones who actually got into the main event of Wrestlemania. But Del Rio's win happened in 2011. Even Chris Benoit wouldn't have won them the game! Thought that was rather amusing.

I thought this was going to be about Del Rio's Rumble win actually being pointless

Because it's true.

Well, that could be argued as well.

I saw it yesterday and 'wrestling' was one of the choices for the final not taken, I guess it rolled over. I'd have gone for Studd.

Wow, that's pretty cool.
That show is so tough, and this is pretty much an example of that. How many Brit's are gonna know this? Plus, the prize money is always crummy! (For TV gameshow standards)

(For TV gameshow standards)Since it's a BBC show, it's funded by the public, so there's no advertisements, which means that gameshows don't have huge prize money involved. In that round, they could have went for Rock or Hogan films too as well, but I can't remember what ones would have won the game.

(For TV gameshow standards) Well, Brits were able to name the other Rumble winners, so... But yeah, it's definitely among the toughest quizzes I've seen.

Can we take out the, "'s rumble win" part of the title? Because it'd be just as true.

Del Rio obviously has a lot of value. I blame the booking in this case completely, and the reason I say that is because Del Rio is capable of doing anything they ask of him, and to me that's the standard for whether or not it's fair to blame the worker. I've always thought they booked him perfectly for like the first two weeks of his run starting with his debut and Smackdown, but from there it's been all one step forward then two steps back. He would be tough to book though because he's a natural heel but Ricardo Rodriguez is over as a face, which is I'm sure why they split them up and put Rodriguez with RVD. It's a little jarring, but it also makes a weird kind of sense.

The Rock films that where Pointless where Doom and The Gridiron Gang I remember that much and Hogan's where 3 Ninjas - High Noon At Mega Mountain and McGinsey's Island (or whatever it was called) and there another one I think

Could it not be because not many people watch WWE anymore?
I'd wager that Sheamus and Edge, two recent winners, would have also been pointless answers.

His win just might be the most pointless Royal Rumble win of all-time. What exactly did his win accomplish?

His win just might be the most pointless Royal Rumble win of all-time. What exactly did his win accomplish? This. I also hate the fact that it is the only 40 man one as well, which should make it even more important. But because Del Rio won it, even that doesn't help give it any importance.

His win just might be the most pointless Royal Rumble win of all-time. What exactly did his win accomplish? He got a world title shot at Mania... in which he not only lost, but in a match that opened the show. The pointlessness of his Rumble win was pretty much amplified.
