I was thinking, the WWE Title is vacant and this year marks the 50th anniversary of Vince McMahon Sr.'s Capital Wrestling breaking off from the NWA to form the World Wide Wrestling Federation and crowned their first WWWF Champion in Buddy Rogers who "won the WWWF Title in a 63 man tournament in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil". So now that the WWE Title is vacant in such a milestone year for the championship I think this is the perfect time for an actual 63 man WWE Championship tournament to take place. Thoughts?

I'd love this idea.
The only thing I'd hate about it is that the brackets of the tournament would likely be telegraphed based on the pecking order of the roster (I.e. Curt Hawkins will lose in the first round to Alex Riley who will then lose to Curtis Axel who will lose to Dolph Ziggler who will lose to Dean Ambrose who will lose to The Miz.)

So, Dean Ambrose/Miz semi-final?

As a mark for tournaments, I'd love this.

If they did it like the NCAA basketball tourney, it would be interesting to see 1st round matches like #1 seed Orton against #16 seed Yoshi Tatsu or #1 seed Bryan against #16 seed JTG(then again, HHH may give Bryan a lower seed, like #8 or something, just to be a dick).

Would there be enough wrestlers to do it, or would you have to use NXT guys and legends to fill slots?

But..
The active male roster is only about 49-51 people.

Could be a good way to get people to watch every show if they decide to have first round matches on Superstars, Main Event, NXT, etc.

I've always been keen on seeing another double elimination tournament in either WWE or TNA; could help make the series longer and make a nice story for when the victors in the loser's and winner's brackets finally face off.

64 works out perfect but how do you do 63?

An eight-man tournament held over one night would suffice.

64 works out perfect but how do you do 63? Well I don't know how the "original" apocryphal would've worked with 63 guys (my guess is they chose that number because besides sounding impressive, it was also the last two digits of the year they crowned their inaugural champion). For this tourny the way to deal with having an odd man is easy. You just give a bye to the tournament participant who is best for bidness!

I f***ing love tournaments, so I'm always up for this.
I like them the most when it gives us matchups between guys on the card we're not likely to see face each other otherwise, though. Like seeing Darren Young getting a 10 minute match with Del Rio or something.

A few years ago I toyed with the idea of doing a World Cup style 32 man tournament as a create your own stroryline in one of the video games. Similar to the Bound for Glory Series, but starting with round robin groups of four guys, then the top two from each group go into a single elimination bracket.
Would be unique to see it play out on TV, but I have a feeling it would turn into a massive mess.

Groups of 4 would certainly be a lot easier to manage than the BFG group of 12, which has had it's issues. Now that I think about it, what's the biggest tournament WWE has ever done? From what I remember, I actually don't think they've ever done one over 16 wrestlers, besides the 2000 King of the Ring.
