I always give Michael Bay credit - he generally knows how to make movies that A LOT of people will pay to see. Are they good? Well, whatever.
But TF, I gave him a lot of wiggle room in terms of how to interpret them for the big screen, and a few nitpicks aisde, he basically did the best with "Giant robots who can transform into cars come to eart and fight" premise of TF that a guy in Hollywood could. I mean, not for nothing and I know this isn't saying a lot, but it could have been A LOT worse.
With TMNT, I give him the same berth. Eastman & Laird sold the rights to TMNT to anyone with a fistfull of sheckles so Bay adapting into some spectacle isn't really "hurting the franchise" or whatever, but I will say this:
The current Nick cartoon and IDW comic run are both REALLY REALLY good. The Nicktoon suprasses the original for me and the IDW comic has had some of my favorite writers/artists on them (the Rocksteady and BeeBop one shot was hilarious and awesome btw) so the bar is unusually high for Bay.
Based on what I've seen so far though...well, I was more interested in TF based on preliminary photos.
I do like that they look like they basically clothed themselves from junk they found in the sewer and various dumpsters. Hopefully they pull it back with the elaborateness of the costumes though and what we've seen are just the turtles at their MOST accessorized, not how they'll look for the whole film.

They're people sized turtles with weapons and ninja skills.
It was overcomplicated from the start.

Way too overdesigned. Simple is better. That's exactly it. These designs just look like a desperate attempt to not look traditional. The funny thing is, all of the other incarnations of Turtles have always done the brown leather belt/pads combo from the original comics. If this movie had given them knee/elbow pads that matched their bandanas and initials on their belts ala the original toys and cartoon, they'd still look different from any other movie Turtles, yet they'd still look like the Turtles and not be overdesigned.

Yeah when you verbalize the concept, it's damned ridiculous sounding, and was meant to be from the get-go, but visually they've never really been complicated- man sized turtles with bandanas and weaponry.

Let's remember that Michael Bay isn't the director. I'm sure his stench will be on it but he was working on Transformers while this was filming. Comicbookmovie had a pretty big spoiler in regards to Shredder.. {Spoiler}They said their source told them to look closely at the Shredder image. It's probably just armor but you can sort of make out an eye and they said it's Krang. That goes with the 2003 animated series where an Utrom (aliens similar looking to Krang) named Ch'rell was actually the Shredder. In the new animated series, they merged Krang and Utroms as an alien species called, The Kraang.

I'll admit that Shredder looks pretty badass. The Turtles are a bit overdressed and the faces might take some getting used to but I don't have too much of a problem with them. Now comes the important part... The script. None of this matters if the film sucks.

I'll stick with the 1990 movie, Which is still pretty awesome
Fair enough Bay isn't Directing but look who is.....Jonathan Liebesman, who's "classics" include
- Darkness Falls - TCM: The Beginning - Battle: Los Angeles - Wrath Of The Titans

Liebesman is no good, I just think there's too much emphasis on Michael Bay.

I'm really not liking this. Their bodies are way too bulky. Especially when they are supposed to be ninjas using flashy martial arts moves. That's always been the point. The idea that Laird and Eastman came up with was animals that in no way could actually preform martial arts. It was a a funny contradiction they came up with one night while drinking so they drew pictures to make each other laugh.

Apparently Viacom is trying to get any and all leaked photos off the net, and any youtube videos with them have been removed.

So what are the chances of the movie causing the Nick show to be cancelled? (I mean like how they cancelled Transformers: Animated when Revenge of the Fallen came out so people "wouldn't be confused") Low, hopefully.

They'd more likely revamp the show to match the movie than outright cancel it. Which I hope they don't.

You had Transformers: Prime replace Animated, and the characters looked more like the live action ones (except better, you figure it out...). On the other hand, Batman: The Brave and the Bold was running about the same time as The Dark Knight, no?
