I can think of a lot of things that flew over my head as a boy. Val Venis' promos certainly flew over my head when I was a kid. I still remember watching Raw and the bit with Mrs. Yamaguchi-San sleeping with him flew over my head. I know she was under the covers, but I had no idea what she was doing under it. The same went with his promo at Summerslam 1998. I still can't believe it took me some time to get what he meant by "I came, I saw, and I came again."
Also, Scotty Anton's finisher name "The Clap." I didn't get the reference and I thought it meant because he, you know, actually clapped as a taunt? Also, Spike Dudley's finisher name "The Acid Drop." I did not know that it was a drug reference until I was in high school, if older. I just thought it was a cool sounding finisher name.

Yeah, a lot of Val Venis stuff.
Al Snow and head. Then head cheese (ugh...).
I guess I also didn't understand that "suck it" and the DX chops are pretty risqué.

I didn't get who Rick Rude was or why it was such a big event that he turned up on Nitro with the NWO.

Well, by 1997 Rude was basically meaningless so it wasn't a big deal that he left the WWF for WCW. It just made Raw look bad for a week since it was taped with Rude on it and he showed up on a live Nitro. Business wise it meant zero.

I didn't understand that the bad people were bad on purpose for the longest time. I was a good, little mark.

I didn't know what being a "ho" entailed, so I assumed that Godfather's hoes were just his entourage.

Why Triple H was fighting for championhips when he sucked in my opinion.
Silly me.

I never understood what IRS would rant about before matches.

When I was young I never understood the idea of why holding the rope or someone's hand made your submission/wear-down hold more effective. In fact there are certain circumstances where I see it done nowadays and I'm still not sure what kind of leverage advantage its giving.

The Acid Drop thing completely passed me by too, mainly because I associated it more with the rather delicious boiled sweet of the same name.

I didn't get why hitting someone with a championship belt was a KO shot. I didn't reaize how heavy they were, so I thought it was just this kayfabe "power of the title" type thing.

The WWF scratch logo. As a kid I never understood why they changed the clean shiny WWF logo into that dirty looking tacky thing. In fact as a kid, I never really understood the attitude era and why wrestlers were beating up their bosses and women were getting naked. I thought it was too dark and just wanted to see Hulk Hogan. Of course I didn't know he was at WCW and part of the NWO at the time(I was pretty late and out of the loop at the time).

I had no friggin' clue what the Repo Man was supposed to be. He was just a goofy looking guy with a hamburglar mask on with a big bald spot and moustache. I STILL don't know what was going through the minds of whoever thought a gimmick based upon repossession would be a good idea for a pro wrestler.

Count me in on the Val Venis stuff. He actually debuted on my 10th birthday, and I don't think there was a single promo of his I understood until I went back and revisited the Attitude era in my late teens.

I didn't understand the concept of a champion when I was a kid. I figured they were competing for just the physical belt as I did often think "that is a nice belt."

The first WCW show I saw was Clash of the Champions XXI. During the Erik Watts/Kensuke Sasaki vs. Arn Anderson/Bobby Eaton match, Jim Ross and Jesse Ventura kept mentioning that Michael Hayes, who was at ringside, put a cash bounty on Watts's head.
Being only nine years old at the time, I had never heard of a bounty match, or the idea of offering a reward for injuring someone. And I think I misheard it as "cast bounty." So I'm sitting there all confused, thinking "What are these guys talking about? I don't see anything on his head!"

I didn't understand X-Pac's "your ass is grass, and I'm gonna smoke it." taunt in WWF Attitude. I even had a shirt with that on the back. No idea how that got past my parents.

I didn't understand the concept of a champion when I was a kid. I figured they were competing for just the physical belt as I did often think "that is a nice belt." I was the same way, in fact I thought that winning King of The Ring was the best thing you could do, since that meant you were THE KING of the WWF. That sounded more important to just holding a belt. In fact I started watching wrestling right before King of the Ring 1993, and I didn't understand why Hogan and Yokozuna didn't want to be in the tournament to be the King.
