I would if anything has killed the heel turn it would be how wrestlers go from heel to face than back from face to heel like they change their socks.

The shocking heel turn isn't dead, IMHO. If John Cena was to ever turn heel, it would shock the bejeezus out of most of the WWE audience; done properly even the smarks who've been calling for it for years would be caught flat-footed.

The cloud if indifference over Cena, could ruin a heel turn. What I mean is, he has to turn on A real deal, white hot, never gonna get booed babyface. It will take time and much effort to put someone in that position. Further, who would he died with afterward? That person has to be waaaay over too. If not you run the risk of merely trading places with the same match we saw four months ago. Hogan turned on Macho, Sting, Luger, Flair, etc the whole company, the whole world. He had ready made feuds and sustained his heat thru the NWO for yrs while new threats were created and cultivated: DDP, Nash, Goldberg, Giant as babyface. Cena needs that in place

I wouldn't say Hogan killed the heel turn, but it certainly made it more difficult; where do you go from there? The problem was, turns could have remained just as viable a part of the storyline had the creative minds remained creative. Even if they couldn't top Hogan's turn in sheer magnitude, creative and intriguing heel turns would and could have kept things fresh. Instead, everyone got lazy and sloppy and non-sensical.

The last great heel turn that I can think of was Jericho a few years back. Don't get me wrong, magnitude wise, it wasnt huge, but in terms of logic and execution it was perfectly done
