I was under the impression that "gringo" was a slur against Americans, often specifically white Americans. Is it racist word? Yes, it's used that way quite often.
Will anybody care? Nah, just JBL being JBL.
I will not open the can-of-worms about the unfortunate implications.
Also, I did not hear him say it, no. I was not paying very much attention. :-p

Um, that word was used several times during the match's commentary. Loads of times before as well.

Vickie Guerrero just used it a few weeks ago.

It's not inherently a bad term, but it's become a slur over time and it's mostly used that way. Which is a shame, of course. You can say it on TV no problem.

I see I misinterpreted it (there's another word that insults hispanics, but it's irrelevant), but really? WWE doesn't care? What if Wade Barrett used some British slang or something? I always thought that "gringo" was a very bad term that could barely be used on TV. Pretty sure Wade and several other British wrestlers have used and continue to occasionally use the word "Yanks" to describe Americans. Same basic thing.

Only marginally related - Eddie Guererro's tag team pre-ECW/WCW, with Art Barr, was called Los Gringos Locos.

This is the same guy who hunted Mexicans at the US Mexico border and goose stepped in Germany.

Gringo is actually a term used against the French during their occupation of Mexico, however it was later adapted to mean white people of the United States.

Careful we don't mix "gringo" in with all the mildly insulting terms for White Americans. Or else it'll mix in with all the other mildly insulting terms and become just a word. Which it is.

The OP is the same dude who gave us the "How can people defend WWE?" thread last month, so I'm inclined to think this is another troll thread. Anyway... Alberto Del Rio says it all the time. Yeah, the main thing I took from that segment was JBL completely ripping on ADR for being so repetitive, what with calling Cena a gringo and perro over and over being the only insults Del Rio was able to think up off the top of his head while commentating.

Alberto Del Rio says it all the time. Hell, he called Cena the Ultimate Gringo just last month. The original version of The Ultimate Warrior during frontier times, or so I'm led to believe by The Kayfabe History of The World.

Gringo isn't that bad of a term. In my family we call the non spicy salsa gringo style lol. There's nothing really bad about it.
