Some guys are notorious for never letting their opponent have the last word during a promo battle no matter if they're face or heel, and who's supposed to win the feud.
Cena, Punk and Trips for exemple like to bury or ridiculize their opponents on the mic often using insiders non kayfabe references.
Cena for exemple is very good at killing a heel's heat by joking around when the other guy is on a super serious mode, Punk must always come out as the smart ass that is too good to be "out-promoed" and Trips well, no need to explain.
It's not fair game, because these guys have creative control of their promos and can basically say whatever they want while their opponent has to follow a script. In the end, the other dude doesn't know how to retaliate and if he can do it without killing his career and submissively takes the verbal punch, looking like a massive fool in the process. It's like being bullied by the head teacher's son.
It's not good for business because that's exactly how you create a glass ceiling over people.
So do you think that sometimes the better promo guys should screw up his promo on purpose to make their opponent look good?

Stephanie.
Terrible on the mic. Screechy voice and it looks absurd for gigantic wrestlers to back down at the sight of a middle aged mother of three. She always has to play the alpha female, and it's even worse when she talks to a Diva, because then all of Stephanie's insecurities come out.

Every-time Punk gets on the mic I fast forward, he's a great wrestler and his delivery is fantastic but for a face I just think, as you said he's too much of a smart ass.
I don't think that they should purposely screw up, but I do think that they should put the lesser promo people over a lot more, like build them up and actually use their great promo skills to the effect of making the guy look better than the guy himself could ever make himself look.

Red and Green. I mean sure they were in ring generals but they constantly buried Vacant and Baltimore Staircase

Triple H. During the Attitude Era he used to pay some lip service to quality of his opponents, but since about 2002 when he buried Rob Van Dam verbally before Unforgiven, that has been his style.

Not trying to derail the thread or anything but I never bought into the whole "burying your opponent on the mic" thing, if two guys are feuding and hate each other then I think they should absolutely rip each other apart on the mic, no "I respect your abilites" or anything like that but just absolute hatred. For example I know it is UFC but when Brock Lesnar faced Frank Mir, Mir absolutely showed bothing but disrespect towards Brock for being a "fake pro wrestler" but that didn't make me think any less of Brock or his skills and still made me want to see the fight.

Umm...nobody's said The Rock yet? I put him in a category with punk in that they talk shit until they see the guy their facing is a legit threat and then put over the match and opponent. Cena wins here, Just watch his bullshit during the rock feud, The rock is bending over backwards to put over the match and how the antics need to be dropped, man to man etc etc and cena is standing there the whole time with a huge douche bag smile, laughing and shitting all over the segment.

Cena wins here, Just watch his bullshit during the rock feed, The rock is bending over backwards to put over the match and how the antics need to be dropped, man to man etc etc and cena is standing there the whole time with a huge douche bag smile, laughing and shitting all over the segment. That bugged the hell out of me. Londond was fired for smiling during the Vince thing (which could've easily been interpreted as nervousness) and yet Cena craps on a Wrestlemania build with his stupid smirk.

UFC/MMA isn't wrestling, it's competition. Dean Ambrose did a perfect heel promo a couple of weeks ago on Big E Langston. Put Big E over to start it, then talked himself up after. Randy Orton did a great job with his "credit where due" promo on Daniel Bryan. Not sure why it isn't a priority with the main event guys.

London wasn't fired over the smiling thing...
Hell they even referenced the smiling thing later... right before they did the "You have a bastard son!" reveal. They had the setup exactly the same as the Limo Explosion... and Vince stops and told London to keep on smiling.

There's a big difference between the UFC and the WWE. The UFC is legit fighting, so no matter how bad someone gets buried on the mic, fans know at the end of the day, the one that is most skilled is going to end up winning. It's not like that in scripted pro wrestling. If someone's getting buried on the mic all throughout the feud, fans are going to expect the same thing to happen in the ring, which makes them less likely to stick around to watch the match, because no one would be interested in such a one-sided feud.

Umm...nobody's said The Rock yet? This isn't totally fair. The Rock showed more vulnerability in the ring to make up for this than most superfaces, he also lost more often to prove himself wrong. Plus he denigrated actual wrestling skill much less often than he did make fun of people's appearance, which isn't the same. Plus he didn't do the insider references.
