And we still have not had a real black WWE World Champion.
Yes yes, The Rock is half black. But he clearly identifies more with his Samoan heritage and seems more of a representative of that then of the black community to me. I can't speak for black wrestling fans of course, but it feels not quite right to "count" The Rock. Especially if we do so to let the WWE off the hook for their lack of racial representation in world champions, which is frankly horrible overall.
Is there a black man in the company right now who could be the first to do it? Big E Langston seems to maybe have the potential to get there. What do you think about this situation? How long until its rectified? Your thoughts are appreciated.

The Rock is the son of WWE's first ever black tag team champion.
He counts. The end.

There really should be a sticky that says that the Rock counts as a black guy.

Also if Truth were younger, he'd probably have a shot as well.

I'd rather that the first black WWE Champion get that honour based on consistent hard work and strong crowd support. The fact that he'd be the first should be a coincidence to his reign, not the reason for it.

There hasn't been an Asian World Heavyweight champion and I don't see anybody clamoring for a Yoshi Tatsu run. (Although I do miss his awesome theme music.)
Do you want to see The Great Khali get a push?
Speaking AS a black wrestling fan.....I honestly could care less about the color of skin when it comes to wrestling.
Although I do wish they would stop jobbing out Kofi. That would be nice. Not because I want to see him win the title....but dude has like ZERO credibility left.

Mark Henry was World Heavyweight Champion. I also agree it should be given to someone on their merits, not skin color.

*scoff* Can we REALLY count Booker? I mean, are we able to trace all his ancestors back to Africa? If not, then he's not 100%! I want to see his birth certificate while we're at it. Seriously though, this topic is so stupid. Why does anyone need to identify with one race or another? What does that have to do with whether you are or not? What if you were adopted by another race? I would think you'd identify by them, right? Or what if you're skin tone isn't very defined? Do we need to get out a paint sample sheet to show how black someone "needs to be"?

I mark out for the "IN THE YEAR OF OUR LORD." But you mean the WWE Title? The title we're supposed to care about that isn't a main event consolation prize? I see the WHC sticking around for Big E or someone to win it. They'll never give the WWE title as is to a Black guy who isn't The Rock. I'd rather that the first black WWE Champion get that honour based on consistent hard work and strong crowd support. The fact that he'd be the first should be a coincidence to his reign, not the reason for it. What does that even mean, man?

PHEEWWWW the excuse making ok give me a sec. Regarding the Rock's "counting" again, I'm not black so I can't speak for the community, I just feel like if I were black I wouldn't feel represented by the Rock based on his representation of his own heritage, and also on the company's presentation of him. Regardless of whether or not he "counts" though the fact that he's the only man of African heritage to ever hold the top title in the company in the entire company's history with all the talented black men who have been in the company and treated badly by booking is still sad as hell, and letting the company off the hook because one half black half samoan man held the title a bunch of times still doesn't sit quite right with me. Also yeah I feel like its obvious I meant the WWE championship. Booker getting the WHC back when it actually mattered more than it does now does help the WWE's case though. I'll give them that, even if Booker was treated like garbage most of the rest of his career there. I'd rather that the first black WWE Champion get that honour based on consistent hard work and strong crowd support. The fact that he'd be the first should be a coincidence to his reign, not the reason for it. Eh, yeah sure I guess but I feel like people use that as an excuse when its not. There are plenty of men in WWE history who could have been WWE champion with better booking and treatment than they got. Besides, representation is important. I could go on and on about how important it is. So many asian american men and african american women site George Takei and Nichelle Nichols' inclusion in the original Star Trek as the reason they got into the industry. Young people of color in America NEED better representation in the media, so especially if the WWE is attempting to appeal to the youth does representation matter. Do we throw the title on people of color just because they are? No that would be clearly disingenuous. But I'd honestly rather have them do that then completely pass over talented black men over and over and over. Regarding Asian wrestlers no I mean Yoshi Tatsu isnt that great of a talent but the WWE's treatment of asian wrestlers has been even more blatantly horrible than their treatment of black wrestlers. And that includes Yoshi who was actually quite over on ECW and hasn't anywhere near gotten his due. His due may not be the world title, but he deserves better. For Christ's sake they couldn't even pass Jimmy Wang Yang the cruserweight title for a hot minute after all he went through. Its ridiculous and there's no excuse for it in this day and age.

Mark Henry was World Heavyweight Champion. I also agree it should be given to someone on their merits, not skin color. I'm sorry but the "merit not skin color" is the most disingenuous excuse of them all. It completely missed the point and also implies there haven't been black wrestlers of merit in the companies history which is insane.

Big E wouldn't count until we get a full DNA and background test. We won't worry until he actually wins the championship, but I have a feeling he won't count either.

The fact that he'd be the first should be a coincidence to his reign, not the reason for it. What does that even mean, man? Basically whoever it would be should be champion on his own merits and talents, and not simply have it given to them to be "first black WWE Champion"... if that makes sense.
