This is not about whether or not the Rock counts or not and the fact that you guys are nitpicking over whether or not he does tells me so so so so much about your mindset. You want to make excuses for this joke of a situation so you can feel better about your chosen form of entertainment.
You are missing the point by a few hundred miles but thats not shock to me.

Big E wouldn't count until we get a full DNA and background test. We won't worry until he actually wins the championship, but I have a feeling he won't count either. God dammit he's 2 and 1/4th Cherokee. Guess we have to keep waiting.

What does that even mean, man? Basically whoever it would be should be champion on his own merits and talents, and not simply have it given to them to be "first black WWE Champion"... if that makes sense. I don't think the implication in what you're saying is something you want to stand by though. Anyway, I've said my piece. I'd post that "Dis gon be good" gif, but: 1.) I hate that damn gif. 2.) Nobody actually says that. In lieu of that shitty gif, I hereby replace it with this:

It's the year 5,345 in Odintime; Ron Simmons was WCW champ and R Truth was NWA champ, I don't suppose that helps.

This is not about whether or not the Rock counts or not The Rock is half black. But he clearly identifies more with his Samoan heritage and seems more of a representative of that then of the black community to me. You brought it up. No one else did. Regarding the Rock's "counting" again, I'm not black so I can't speak for the community, I just feel like if I were black I wouldn't feel represented by the Rock based on his representation of his own heritage Would you prefer if he came out to hip hop music, shuckin' and jivin'?

I'm not out here to make a lighthearted thread and not every thread has to be. Putting the spotlight of seriousness and social responsibility on our favorite medium now and again shouldn't be such a big deal should it? I understand that its an uncomfortable subject for white boys that don't want to admit there's a problem but its one I'd like to see confronted more seriously without the nitpicking. I really regret saying the thing about The Rock "not counting" not because I don't think I had a point by saying that, but because it gave a nitpicking target that distracted from the issue and wasn't at all the point of my thread, just a disclaimer.

he's the only man of African heritage to ever hold the top title in the company in the entire company's history with all the talented black men who have been in the company and treated badly by booking is still sad as hell -The WWWF/WWF/WWE has historically treated Black performers much better than many promotions. NY was one of the earliest places to allow mixed-race matches. Although the Top Title didn't have a black Champion until the Rock, there were many ethnic WWE Champions in the company. Bruno Sammartino was Italian, Pedro Morales was Puerto Rican, Sheik was Iranian, Yokozuna was Samoan, etc. The McMahon's treat you well no matter what your race is as long as you make them money. BoBo Brazil, Rocky Johnson, Tony Atlas, Farooq, D-Lo, Mark Henry, Godfather, are just a few of many big name black wrestler's to achieve great success in WWE despite not winning the top title. - It's not up to you to decide something that is already a fact. The Rock is the first African American WWE Champion. He's also the second ever Samoan WWE Champion.

Explain to me...how should Rock "represent" his black heritage? What does that mean exactly? What would you want him to do? Throw it in promos randomly? I think it's simple enough that Rock only represents where he came from. He represents himself. I think you're the confused one.

To be fair to the WWE, in the last 10 years or so, is there a black wrestler (outside of the Rock) that deserved to be WWE Champion.
The only two that really come to my mind are Mark Henry and Booker T. Admittedly, I do think WWE missed the boat with Booker but he did have the World Title quiet a bit. With Mark, I really do think that the WWE would've given him a shot to run with the belt, but he's just too damn injury prone at this stage of his career.
Kind of hard to build a championship-level feud when the champ's injured.

And are we sure Darren Young really counts as gay? I mean, I'm not gay, but I know that gay people don't identify with or feel represented by D-Young if he's always the top.

I answered to the first part in my last post. And no that again is sooooo far away from my point and reveals more about you than it does me. I think it's simple enough that Rock only represents where he came from. He represents himself. I think you're the confused one. Representation in the media is a deeply important issue to me. The fact that children who watch television are statistically more likely to be depressed unless they are white boys after watching a lot of television is important to me. Media aimed at young children representing a diverse group of heroes for the diverse young people that are watching is important to me. The Rock counts. I retract that part of my argument. I still don't think he's "enough". Not for me. I'm not going to engage in this element of the discussion any further as it distracts so much from what I'm trying to say and I really regret saying it.
