ANOTHER TOP INDEPENDENT STAR AT NXT by Mike Johnson @ 4:33 PM on 11/20/2013
Colt Cabana was at the WWE Performance Center in Orlando, FL today, so apparently today is his latest announcing tryout with the company.

I don't even know why he bothers at this point.
The WWE doesn't seem to have any interest in him.

It's more like they are that goth girl in high school everyone knew that went "G-GO AWAY! IT'S NOT LIKE I LIKE YOU OR ANYTHING! ...No WAIT COLT COME BAAAAAACK! ...G-GO AWAY IDIOT! YOU'RE STUPID!"

I came up with a fantasy booking scenario to use Colt getting an announcing gig as a way to get Punk involved in a feud with The Authority. no one commented the last time I posted the whole thing so I won't bother this time lol

The WWE gives a lot of random nobodies tryouts. If they were really interested they'd have come to him, not the other way around. The guy's spent years trying to get into the WWE, to no success, and likely the only reason he's getting another tryout is because he's good friends with Punk.

I don't even know why he bothers at this point. The WWE doesn't seem to have any interest in him. Story I've always heard is they love him as an announcer and wanted him in that role as far back as his time in FCW, just Colt didn't want that and it is what lead to his job run and firing. Now he still has supporters but with all the turn over they want him to prove himself again. Them bring him in multiple times (I think this is like the third time) shows they at least have some interest, they wouldn't waste their time and money otherwise.

They have just got rid of Dawson, Phillips and Riley aren't much good, I believe Stanford is doing other things at the moment, Renee is too good a backstage interviewer to use on commentary, they don't seem to want Saxton in that role for some reason and the jury is out on Tensai plus he still wrestles anyway.
Basically it seems the ideal time for the return of Scotty Goldman, he may even get a fair chance this time around.

Only enough interest to give him a look out of courtesy. If they saw him as any kind of star, I don't think they'd need to have him go through all these tryouts to "prove himself".

Any other company and I'd go with that, but this is WWE, so anything's possible.

They allow announcers to still take outside bookings, right?

Colt should be wrestling because it just doesn't seem right for him to sit on the sidelines and watch all his Indy colleagues have success. Riley should also be wrestling, even if just as enhancement talent. Tensai is pretty damn good, and commentary would be a good for him since he's in the twilight of his career.

They allow announcers to still take outside bookings, right? Just Lawler, though none of the other announcers really have any reason to do outside bookings. JBL's retired and Regal's full time at the Performance Centre.

Basically it seems the ideal time for the return of Scotty Goldman, he may even get a fair chance this time around. This brings up a good point actually. If everything goes well and Colt is given the job, does he come in as Goldman or Cabana? The Cabana name is of more value and is more widely know, with the help of Punk of course, but using it on WWE TV would require Colt to allow the WWE to own it. Using the Goldman name has more negatives then using the Cabana name but those negatives are of less importance, eventually Goldman would get a Colt Cabana chant.

If they do pick him up, they should at least let him wrestle in NXT as well as announce. Basically it seems the ideal time for the return of Scotty Goldman, he may even get a fair chance this time around. This brings up a good point actually. Using the Goldman name has more negatives then using the Cabana name but those negatives are of less importance, eventually Goldman would get a Colt Cabana chant. At this stage I could see them going the Punk route and licensing the Cabana name from him as it would benefit both parties more than bringing back the Goldman name or creating a new one entirely.

and likely the only reason he's getting another tryout is because he's good friends with Punk. Punk and Friends vs Hogan and Friends at Survivor Series. Book it, brother.

If Del Rey is being wasted as a trainer might as well waste Colt on commentary.
