Hehehe, now that point by Cereal was interesting. While the mane five were just disabling the plants attacking Twilight, as soon as Twilight woke up, she blasted the plants right into plant heaven. No bucking around with the Twilight Princess. Makes you wonder why Twilight didn't just do that in the beginning.

Applejack kinda played the dumbarse role yesterday sending Twilight away..Not that the other 3 helped matters -.- You saw how lost Canterlot and Ponyville were without Celestia and Luna. AJ was just thinking about them, since they're too dumb to do anything without a princess, and don't even get me started on the guards. The guards thing irritated me a LOT. The Mane Cast gettng back together in the forest bothered me, especially with the "We really do need YOU". Softening the blow about the distinction between "Princess" and "Friend" was not enough for me. But I chalk that up to the "Twilight and her normal friends" thing

They could have made up the time extending the flashbacks

To be fair, both sides had valid reasons for their arguments, its just that it was too rushed for any important feels to develop.
If I would have been in charge, I would have structured this as a 3-parter like this:
Part 1: No changes (well, except use Discord as the flashback initiator).
Part 2: Expand the mane cast travelling through the Everfree with them encountering dangers reminiscent of the season 1 opener with the others getting more and more worried about Twilight, until it comes to the scene where they send Twilight to Ponyville although now it has actual foundation. Use them going their separate ways as the end.
Part 3: Twilight and Discord have an expanded bantering session while the others find the tree and struggle with it. The rest plays out like most of the last act of Part 2 except a bit more expanded.

If I would have been in charge, I would have structured this as a 3-parter like this: Part 1: No changes (well, except use Discord as the flashback initiator). I agree with this. I would have also expanded the flashbacks. The encounter with the crocodile wasn't enough to convince me that Twilight had to leave the rest. 1-2 more encounters with her as "princess in peril" could have done it, but is that justifying the separation that shouldn't have taken place at all? Maybe Discord triggers the flashbacks while the group is in the Everfree forest and Twilight just "Stops" when these hit. The others have to protect her because she doesn't "see" what's going on around her. Maybe have Discord catch up with them, feigning concern (or genuinely concerned for Fluttershy). Reveal earlier that the evil plants were his idea, even though he SHOWED Twilight in the flashback, he didn't explain it. This causes some static but forces Discord to be more active in this part of the story, maybe making him "Clean up his own mess" while they're at the Tree? Just typing out loud.

What South Park could not do, does not mean that MLP cannot do as well.

Why not? Most of the two-parters we had would have been even better with more time devoted to them.
