Goldust is wasted with Cody

I never understood why he so rapidly turned into a comic character. He could easily be one of the best promo guys in the company able to do slightly more than "I can beat you" and "shutchermouf". But instead he's just lost in the pack tagging with his brother who while quite good at twerking, has in all honesty little going for him other than who he's related to.

Goldust could still be a US/IC title level contributor to the show. Okay at his age he would mainly be used to enhance mid-ranked guys but enhance them he would.

My main reaction is to wonder what you're talking about with Cody having little going for him. The guy's a total package. Though that being said, I am kind of eager at this point for them to go their separate ways; they are awesome together and I'm definitely glad they got the tag titles, but I think Cody could easily use this to transition into doing more of substance than he was before and Goldust would probably also be better served working singles if he's going to stay active after this team's done.

Goldust has wanted a 1 vs 1 with Cody @ Wrestlemania for the past 5 years. He's talked about nothing else.

This is simply part of the story arc of how we get there.

Afterwards, if he sticks around, I'd imagine he'd go into a single feud with someone else.

Goldust has been wasted at a lot of points in his career, both through short-sighted booking and his own drug problems. If he'd lived up to his potential, I have no doubt he'd be, at the very least, on the Jericho/RVD level as a beloved veteran who is always credibly on the fringes of the main event scene.

But taking into account the last decade or so of his career, Goldust is not being wasted right now. If anything, Goldust is the best he's been in years, finally having gotten all his shit together and seemingly determined to close out his career on a high note.

As for Cody, I felt the same way when I first saw him in Legacy. Another nonentity vanilla midget. He's proved me wrong many times over, and delivered every time they've given him freedom to show some personality. I think he's got the potential to be a major star of the post-Cena generation, and frankly, I'd say he's worth more to WWE than Punk or Bryan.

Which is frustrating as Cody has proven he has the talent to be interesting every chance he's been given. WWE just seem intent on stripping away anything interesting about Cody past his last name.

The funny thing is Cody's firing angle gave Goldust the perfect opportunity to show he still got it which he proved with that match with Orton and his promo after. That Cody firing angle that turned into The Rhodes Family vs. The Authority & The Shield was booked perfectly.

Cody has a great look, knows how to work a match with proper psychology, and is good to great on the mic depending on the subject. Yeah, I'm not seeing any positives about him either.

What's so great about Cody's look?

Sure he looks better than likely you or I do but we're not going by the 'who'd stand out without a shirt on at Walmart' standard. I'd doubt he's much over 6ft, if he is at all. He probably weighs about 200lbs and he has short black hair. He's got a decent body but he's hardly ripped in comparison to other guys on the roster.

I'm not getting how that's a "great look" it isn't terrible but it's hardly 'stand out' is it?

I like them as a team, they give off a really nice old-school vibe (GD's outfit notwithstanding) that isn't really found much these days. I think Dustin is giving some of his best performances now *because* of the team; split them and that motivation is gone. Plus we're getting near 20 years of them proving they have no plans to really do much with him beyond midcard. Let them enjoy this run a while longer.

But the character is still strong yet presently it's just a second in a tag team. It's not like they're teaming Goldust with someone, rather it's just Goldust in a tag team. What I mean is that his personality and character makes zero difference he's just 'generic tag-team partner #221485'. He may as well just be Dustin Rhodes for all the difference it makes.

Goldust is fairly young for a legend which he most certainly is but at this point in his career even a silly legends appearance isn't wasting him. He was huge in the mid 90s but a combination of either leaving for greener pastures or being fired for one reason or the other have led to him not being worth as much. Hasn't he been hired and fired almost as many times as Marty Jannetty or Jim Neidhart?
If I were owner, leaving time after time or having to be fired for infractions gives me the right to never hire you again. In a team with Cody, Dusty and Dustin it's Dustin who is the one who the least should be done for. Cody is the up and comer, Dusty is one of the greatest legends among great legends and Dustin is just Goldust who could've had it all and been huge but never truly made it big. Too bad for him and WWE because of the PG rating. Dustin could be getting millions of hits and dollars doing a gimmick with Miley Cyrus.

If you really look at Dustin's career, he's spent a vast amount of it as a tag wrestler, from his Memphis days to teaming with his dad in his first WWF run to the Steamboat and Windham teams to his run with Booker T. Even in his heyday as Goldust during the early attitude years, he was constantly being paired up with the likes of Mero and Vader.

That's because at this point, he pretty much is Dustin Rhodes in a funny outfit, doing some of his old mannerisms.

The character is still strong, but is his body? None of us know the answer to that question.
He's in his mid-40s, and his in ring career is likely winding down. Being "second" as Tag Team Champions, (who are pretty over), isn't a bad spot for him.
