I fully admit that I had a massive hard-on for the Miz when he was MITB back in 2010. When he won the title, I marked out huge. During his title reign, however, I realized something. While he's not nearly as bad some people say...he's not very good either. I mean, at best, he's average in the ring. He can only have good matches when he's in the ring with someone better than him. He's very hateable but even then, he's not good enough to justify a position beyond being a warm body for a midcard/upper-card babyface to knock off every now and then. I do believe that WWE seriously handicapped the guy during his title reign but he really hasn't shown me anything that proves he deserves another run on top.
Don't get me wrong, I get why he's still employed. He's a great PR guy and it's obvious that he does love wrestling and works really really hard at his craft. Sometimes though, working hard at something isn't enough to be great at it.

Of the "future endeavored" list.

I do like Miz, but the big problem with him is- he's the only guy on the roster, in a big role, who I could undeniably say "his story has ended" for: The defining story for Miz really boiled down to "No one wants me to be a WWE superstar? No one believes in me? I'll show you. I'll show you ALL!" No one believed in The Miz, so he fought hard, he clawed his way to the top, to walk out of Wrestlemania 27 as the WWE Champion...and because of that, that was the end of his story. There's nowhere to go but down, because there's no reason "not" to believe in The Miz anymore. He's already done it all before, so you can't totally discount that he could do it again. The only thing left for that would be if WWE tried running with "The Miz goes after The Streak"- and even if WWE's been prepping for it well, you'd probably see a riot if The Miz became The One (literally- the WM host city would probably burn if The Miz beat Undertaker at Wrestlemania.) WWE should've played off of this when he was hot and let him turn face. The Rock, like I alluded to in the OP, was very similar in this way. I honestly thought Miz would be the biggest star since Cena, and become the face of the new "Universe" generation. With bad booking and a bit of laziness, Miz lost it and now Punk and Bryan filled that spot for him. A storyline with Miz trying to rise up "one more time" would be interesting though. Maybe have him randomly go after top stars in an attempt to "show them".

It'd be more beneficial to 'E if they were to treat with some semblance of respect. To let a former WM main-eventer slip into midcard obscurity really does no favours to the luster of headlining the big show.

The difference is that Jericho can bounce back between the midcard and main event effortlessly, because he's built up so much respect with the fans, and his ring work is top 5 of all time. Miz would need to be built back up artificially.

It's a shitty comparison, Jericho is a one-of-a-kind talent.

Miz would need to be built back up artificially. They try that with guys like Miz, Ziggler, Ryback, Del Rio, Khali, Barrett. They go to the midcard for a while, they randomly have a match on PPV with someone like Orton or Cena or Punk. But unless you're a little kid, you pretty much know they're about to get their gonna lose. Jericho may have been this, but like you said, he was talented and enough accomplishments to bouce back. I once thought the Miz did, but he hasn't been involved in the main event of anything in 2 years. None of those guys I listed have that ability either. Only really Jericho and maybe Big Show and Kane can do that and pull it off.

These days, unless you debuted prior to 2003, or are an indy star, you can't get a solid chance at the upper card. It's a shame, really.
