I'm not sure I'm the one who "missed the point," haha. I asked a question about something that could realistically happen and change the face of the WWE, as well as make a big publicity stir and affect many fans. He responded by comparing it to: A) A wrestler dying his hair. Who cares? Complete strawman comparison. B) A wrestler/celebrity deliberately hiding their biological gender, which would be unprecedented in modern pop culture and be a way huger deal than someone coming out of the closet. Complete strawman comparison. C) A wrestler having a secret lineage connecting him to another wrestler/celebrity. Most people would just shrug at this. Complete strawman comparison. What I found funny is that he lumped these hypotheticals in like they were comparable to each other, which sounded like something someone on "It's Always Sunny" would yell while defending themselves in an argument. "Why are you so mad!? It's not like I dyed my hair or pretended to be a girl for eight years or my dad is Jesse Ventura." See what I mean? In a company that ribs people for legit passing out, I was very surprised by the mature, forward thinking response to Darren Young. I'm curious to see what people think would happen if it happened on a much bigger scale. All I'm saying is that we can apply hypotheticals like this all day long, but I personally don't think it will lead to much interesting discussion. I'm also not a fan of hypothetical threads like "What if WCW bought WWE?" Or "What if Edge didn't retire?" I just don't see the point in these sorts of discussions. Too many variables, and there is a literally limitless amount of hypothetical histories we can throw out there.

Nikki would feel betrayed. If she didn't play soccer this wouldn't have happen to her. Nikki would still pester John to marry her. "It's ok. We can just share my place in San Diego. I mean after all, gay marriage is now legal in California!" Hypotheticals of this nature are kinda silly. I mean, we can make dozens of these threads like this for anybody on the roster. What if Sheamus was a natural blonde? What if AJ Lee was a dude? What if CM Punk was the son of Jesse Ventura? "I'm Straight Edge, because alcohol is used by the Illuminati and the Bilderberg Group to anesthetize the public towards their overtures for global dominance! Now why aren't you letting me open this door that says 'authorized personnel only'? It's a damn conspiracy!"

WWE will be even richer, WWE will incorporate more gay fans if they haven't got any already.

Honestly? I feel like WWE would ask Cena to keep quiet until he was on the down swing of his career. It's easy for them to let a bottom of the card guy like Darren Young come out because really, it probably increased his value to the company but the face of the company doing it? Too much potential for it to damage his profitability to the company which is sad to say.

I'm just voicing a dissenting opinion. What if a few people go and make hundreds of threads discussing other hypotheticals every day? Would that be acceptable? They're technically "valid" and unique topics, right? (To be clear, this is not some sort of threat. I have no intentions to go make any of these kinds of threads.)

To answer your hypothetical questions, which in themselves present the possibility of multiple answers, each of which depends on a series of unaccounted for variables that you yourself are critiquing: So what? Yes. And yes.

Didn't they do a gag on the Springer guest host spot where one of the Bellas is a dude? If that's Cena's ol lady, there ya go. Cena is dating the one that was a man for that bit. Incidentally, i believe during the Darren Young coming out week, he said that his brother is gay. I thought Brie was the one that claimed she was a man

With Darren, WWE is in this precarious damned if you do, damned if you don't, position where he can't be pushed or de-pushed without people thinking that the company has an agenda related to his sexuality (self included ). Cena would be seen as a hero, applauded for being a gay man who reached the top of an alpha male dominated profession, and commended for his will power and the ability to focus on his craft in spite of the temptation of being in proximity to half naked muscle men all the time.

He would remain the focal point of the company and they would try to paint some bullshit picture of the WWE being a place of love and acceptance.

Cena being a top guy means he has a very very large fanbase though. Every time I think the acceptance of homosexuals is increasing and getting better and better you run into people that make you question just how much progress is actually being made, then you realise these people are more common then you would like to believe. Now I'm not trying to insinuate anything but Cena's fanbase could have a good chunk of homophobes and overly-protective parents that are uncomfortable having to explain what homosexuality is, so they'd rage at WWE. Cena is one of the only draws they have currently and taking a cut to t-shirt, PPV, DVD, just general merch sales would hurt.

I wanna live in your world. I'm pretty sure gender issues fall under one of the "LGBT" letters, so yeah they do kinda fall in the same category.

I honestly think that, behind the scenes, Cena has banged more women than Punk and Batista combined, he just keeps it well hidden since he has a squeaky clean image to uphold.
