I'm amazed at anyone saying this is bad for Hunico. His all-too-brief run as Evil Sin Cara was the best stuff of his career, then they destroyed him with that awful bicycle-riding, Samoan-befriending cholo gimmick.

So the real question is, Sin Cara I isn't being replaced and he comes back...how do they explain that tattoo? If I had to guess, Sin Cara I/Misticara has been quietly released; possibly been allowed out of his no-compete clause if they're allowed to use the Sin Cara gimmick and he just returns to Mexico under the Mistico gimmick. But that's just wild mass guessing on my part. The Mistico gimmick has been passed on to someone else, and as his departure from Mexico resulted in a lot of bad blood he's unlikely to ever get the gimmick back.

Having Hunico keep the Sin Cara gimmick is a dumb idea.
How far do you think he'd manage to get in the WWE when he's not even aloud to talk?

The other guy couldn't speak English so they never bothered to have him try, Hunico can and has cut a promo while wearing the mask if I remember right.

I know, but then won't that just make it more obvious that it's Hunico under the mask? And if that's the case, why pretend that he's Sin Cara at all? If it's only about keeping him under a mask, it'd be better to just give him a different one, under a new name.

I doubt many people remember Hunico exists, let alone what he sounds like so I don't think him cutting promos would cause any issues. As for why put him under the Sin Cara mask, it's over and WWE has a lot of time and money invested into it so why throw it away because another guy was a complete waste?

Because he will be called a botch machine even when he's not one. The original Sin Cara wasn't as much as a botcher as he was made out to be but that didn't stop the jokes and criticisms. Better to start off fresh. Sin Cara isn't as popular as we may think. Crowd wasn't being apathetic to him because he wrestling Del Rio.

I don't know, I remember during Hunico's last Sin Cara Impersonator run, at which time the Sin Cara: Botchmaster meme was already going strong, the comments about him on here tended to be pretty positive, with a lot of talk that he was crisper and more fluid in the ring than the original. Even the people criticizing him usually complained that he was boring and didn't do as many acrobatic moves (which is true), rather than accusing him of Grand Botchery. As for his popularity, wasn't it being reported recently that WWE was still selling lots of Sin Cara masks/shirts on the European tour, even though Sin Cara wasn't on it? I don't generally put stock in NEWZ, but if WWE thinks the gimmick is successful enough that they want to give it to a different performer rather than coming up with a new luchador identity, I can believe it.

So they're gonna have different wrestlers go under the Sin Cara mask? It's like a Mexican Doink gimmick now.

People were still calling Hunico Cara a botcher until news got out a new guy was under the mask. Then he start to get praise and folks requesting him to get the role. As far as Sin Cara's popularity goes, Zack Ryder still move a good deal of merchandise. Doesn't Zack deserve another push for that? Not that hard to come up with a new gimmick and mask. I still contend Mattel is the reason why the character won't be put out to the pasture. Sin Cara will be passed down like legendary lucha gimmicks.

I do feel bad for the original Sin Cara. He was THE absolute top Mexican luchador in the world a few years back (and I'm certain he won something for top wrestling draw of the decade not just for Mexico, but the world), but this WWE run just completely went to shit for him right from the jump... literally.
And now he apparently has nothing to go back to, with both his gimmicks usurped and a bad knee for his troubles.

Is this true? I like Cara, but I love Hunico. Would hate to see Hunico just merge with Cara again

The ring different? I haven't seen a lot of him in his prime but he hadn't done anything near as cool as what little of what I've seen him do in Mexico.

People were still calling Hunico Cara a botcher until news got out a new guy was under the mask. Are you sure? IIRC, there was no period between Hunico's debut and people learning it was a new guy. Mistico got suspended for a Wellness violation, then Hunico showed up doing the gimmick on a Mexico tour before the 30 days were up, leading to lots of speculation. By the time he showed up on TV doing the gimmick, I recall most everyone on here already knowing it was a new guy under the mask.

As for why put him under the Sin Cara mask, it's over and WWE has a lot of time and money invested into it so why throw it away because another guy was a complete waste? If Sin Cara is so over, how would the fans manage to forget his most memorable rival? And the WWE has money invested in Sin Cara himself, not the mask. They'd not remember Hunico because he upped and disappeared for the three years since it happened. Plus, what would there be to remember about him? That feud last three weeks before he took off the mask, gained a Samoan and took up residence with JTG. Sin Cara was over as the new masked flippy guy and Hunico can easily step back into that role. As for what WWE has money invested in, they make money off the gimmick, the mask, the costume and what not, not the wrestler in this case. What would anyone put on Sin Cara that only Mistico could do? There isn't some unique physical features, no moves, or anything like that, the entire selling point is the gimmick. They gave Mistico a chance because of his fame in Mexico and he failed so much like in Mexico, they are passing a solid gimmick on to someone else. By the time he showed up on TV doing the gimmick, I recall most everyone on here already knowing it was a new guy under the mask. There was at least one Smackdown right after Hunico took over but before it was well known who was under the mask where the Smackdown report called him worse than ever but after the show aired most seem to think he was alright. But yeah, the first few weeks Hunico was crapped on as well. People were looking for anything to call Sin Cara a botch machine.

The Mistico gimmick has been passed on to someone else, and as his departure from Mexico resulted in a lot of bad blood he's unlikely to ever get the gimmick back. He could do a L.A. Park type of situation. Just do a rewording of his name and stick close to the original gimmick. M.I. Stiko. More to the point, he has major heat with the owners of both AAA and CMLl, so his options in Mexico are very limited.
