By that i mean people who have never watched wrestling before and had no interest in it prior. A lot of the fans who got into it due to Austin or Rock or even Foley had never seen wrestling before, but their characters hooked those fans in. Is there anyone on the current roster who could do this? Admittedly, Cena has done this with younger fans, but i cant see anyone on the current roster who could be appealing to potential older fans. Possibly CM Punk, but thats about it. As much as we love Daniel Bryan, he has zero mainstream appeal.

Punk was doing it in 2011. Not bringing on a new boom or anything, but he was raising awareness quite a bit compared to where it had been at. Then SummerSlam happened and it all went down the shitter.
I think out of everyone on the full-time roster, Sheamus could sincerely be that next huge star if they'd just utilize him properly.

Punk doesn't have much mainstream appeal. He's too tatted up and the straight edge lifestyle is a joke to a lot of people. He is not a complete loss at all, but I dont think he could be Austin or Rock.
To answer your question: Cena. However the boat may have sailed there and it may be too late, as of right now he's presented as this white bread babyface and has been for so long that it's likely not possible anymore.

Jeff Hardy really looked like he had the potential to do this. Even now, I think WWE's best shot would be repackaging some good-looking high-flyer with a flagrant Jeff Hardy ripoff gimmick.

It's near impossible to tell, you really need somebody who has a character that reflects the zeitgeist of their era at the same time they reach their peak as a performer, that's not some something you can predict.
That's why people mention Punk and Bryan, in theory they could have been the guy that fitted into the current backlash against big corporations, Punk in particular as he could have used the internet to lead the revolution.

Oh, and I actually think Bryan has a better shot of connecting with casual fans than Punk ever did. A crazy bearded guy who screams YES! and NO! is at least a straightforward enough idea to grok, whereas caring at all about Punk's routine requires being intimately familiar with the whole laundry list of things smarks like to complain about.

Hooking new fans isn't that simple. There are pleasers and there are drawers. A pleaser is someone who entertains those who are going to watch anyway. A drawer is someone who gets people who don't normally watch to watch.
Someone mentioned CM Punk earlier, but I consider him to be a pleaser. He didn't really bring in new fans but the ones who were watching already (seemed to) enjoy the show more.

Punk. No question.
And as strange as this may sound, give him another year or so of seasoning and I'd say Titus. That guy is money waiting to happen.

I think the biggest thing he has against him is that he's 36. The best opportunity would've been (and still could be) to push PTP with the quirkiness of Edge and Christian. If done right, they could be the top face team, IMO.

Due to WWE's booking, no one can hook new fans, and even if new fans tuned in, they'd tune out once they saw the shit that WWE was serving up.

I think if anything's gonna catch a new viewer's eye immediately right now it's the tag-team division. You have dudes doing Samoan war dances and people in matador costumes bouncing and flipping all over the place and a team of brothers who couldn't possibly look any weirder next to eachother. It's not gonna have them tune in every week forever, but it will get them to stop and watch if they're just flipping through channels and that's already half the battle.

Punk is the obvious answer.
I think Antonio Cesaro could become something if given a shot. He's got that awe inspiring strength, along with impressive size and good looks that I could definitely picture him being a big player. The only thing I'd hold against him is maybe his his somewhat lacking promos.

My thought as well. People seem to love guys that can just wreck shit and if they keep using him as they have with the Shield I think he'll be huge. He's got a solid look and great presence about him as well.

I think the biggest thing he has against him is that he's 36. Definite drawback in ways, but I also see a very Terry Crews-like vibe to him. He'll never be main event, but I can certainly see side projects for him going very well.
