Such a strange system where people with zero wrestling experience can sign a developmental deal on the spot, while people with years of experience in the indys need to go through months long tryouts and trial runs before actually getting signed.

Between his pretty awful tattoo and his weird, thirteen-year-old face... Strange looking man.

Vince saw a picture of him, and immediately orgasmed.
He then demanded that someone sign him.
"Dammit, that guy is gorgeous. Who is he? A football player? In the NFL? Pork Chale? Who the hell are they?"

From what I understand, there are different levels of developmental contracts. The most basic, which this guy & every other college athlete that signs right out of school, is basically for wrestling school. It's workouts, running, learning to bump etc. Guys like the American Wolves for example wouldn't need a class like that. They're basically getting a contract for finishing school. Here they learn to work the WWE style, develop their characters, & promo abilities. I'm sure there are more basic training spots open than there are for experienced guys. I'd also assume a good number of people never even make it out of the basic class, so they continue to restock with new signings. Guys who get the higher level developmental contracts are paid more, & therefore fully vetted before getting signed, which is why it takes so long for contracts to be finalized.

Ladies are going to love him. He has a interesting backstory so I see WWE giving him a decent push if he is any good in the ring.

This will lead to a stable featuring him, Preston fan and underground fighter Bad News Barrett and the man too violent for rugby, Antonio Cesaro. Throw in 'Mr. Aggressive' Alberto Del Rio too. Hell, you could even call the stable Aggressive FC!

He quit soccer because of a knee injury, and now he's wrestling? That sounds like a horrible idea to me, but I'm not a physiologist.

I know, but retiring from soccer because of a knee injury is different than Goldberg tearing his abs and not being good enough to cut it.

I can't help but think that if he had Erik Rowan's head, or Trevor Murdoch's torso, he'd have never been offered anything. Nice stunt casting, WWE. I wonder if they secretly run the WB, too.
