My issue was and is that only one babyface is allowed to "save the day" and the storyline always becomes 'X is so ungrateful, John Cena is such a great man that he helps out of the goodness of his heart, and X just wants to whine about it".
IF Bryan reacts and says "I don't need you to speak for me", then we get Ryback redux. If he says nothing, then it's Bret/Hogan/Yoko all over again.
He was the hot act that the fans ate up, and usually you want to go with that. Which of the above scenarios serves to showcase D-Bry as anything close to a legit threat?

I hate how Bryan stands there like some sheepish youngster while Cena talks about how he deserves an opportunity. Really patronising.

Really patronising. yet stepping up when Cena starts talking about him and grabbing the mike is rude beyond belief. When someone steps up to speak for you and you interrupt saying something like "I don't need you to speak for me," makes you a flat out asshole

Turning Bryan heel anytime soon is the kind of thing TNA would do. "The fans like someone! We might make money! TURN HIM HEEL! ALSO TURN HIM FACE AGAIN IN A FEW MONTHS THEN BACK TO HEEL!" How many times has Bryan flipped from face to heel and back since his debut? How many times have Punk? Sheamus? Del Rio It's not just something TNA would do, it's something the WWE has done repeatedly already. It's a symptom of everything that's wrong with wrestling booking these days, a heel turn is like a title run, it's no longer a surprise, it's an inevitability.

It's stupid.
A more forward thinking approach would be for John to be somewhat respectful of DB and try to verbally put him over.
Not that John is exactly a has-been, but why is he the only guy that every gets any white knight action?
It's funny, seeing as how he socially looks like an ass doing it. Which in itself would even be fine if the were doing a slow heel bleed, but they're not. There's too many armbands moving still yet.

I expect Bryan to end up chokeslammed through the stage. Week after that he'll be in a wheelchair and in 3 weeks he'll see Cena make out with Brie right in front of his eyes.

I don't like it. Bryan is fine enough on the mic to speak for himself. It makes both him and Cena look stupid. The only way I would really be happy with Cena being such a booster for DB is if at some point he said he wants Bryan to win the title so Cena can fight him for it and prove he's the better man.

Is he ruining the Bryan gimmick? I'd say no, he's just annoying. I think they're just trying to gain Cena a few extra cheers/a few less boos by doing what they're doing.
Is he ruining the Tensai gimmick? Of course.

It's a shame Cena wasn't around years ago, imagine how good the "Austin 3:16" promo would have been if Cena had stepped in to accept the King of the Ring award on behalf of Stone Cold.
Or better yet, Cena should have delivered CM Punk's original "pipebomb" promo, you know where Punk called himself "best in the world" and called Cena an ass-kisser.

But I would like Cena to do it in a way where it doesn't seem like he's being selfless. I want Cena to come out and say, "You beat me for the title. I want a rematch. These Authority dinks will never give you a shot at the belt unless I step in and demand it because I'm John Cena and I run this place. You're welcome." Have him be a dick about it, but for the right reasons.

I had more of an issue with DB selling a low blow for eternity while all of the after the bell stuff was going on. Like all of that stuff in the match couldn't keep you down, but a punch to the nuts? DEAD.

Cena's the one that actually got Vince to give Punk the title match at MiTB after Vince suspended him. He's been portrayed as the guy that cares about deserving guys getting shots to make it for a couple of years now.

CM Punk went from heel to face about four times since his debut in 2006. Hardly flip flopping considering Big Show and Kane turn 2-3 times a year.

I don't mind it. It shows that Cena and Bryan have a mutual respect for each other and that Cena is using the clout he's picked up over the years to help Bryan out. Bryan tried for months to do it on his own, and the Authority kept screwing him over. Now it's like, hey, if Cena wants to help, then so be it.

No one's brought up that they did the exact same thing with Ryback during his big face push? Waiting on that one didn't really bring all that much to see, although you could extrapolate it as giving us random ambulance driving guy snatching Ryback, which was admittedly pretty great.

Well Ryback and to a lesser extent Bryan aren't really promo guys, at least not as good as Cena is. They probably figured with a Cena promo endorsement would make the guy they want to push as more legit. Not neccesarily more liked, since they don't/didn't need the help to be over, but in kayfabe Cena's pretty damn strong so it was more like a "legend" endorsement.

I was looking forward to his return there...

Ryback and Daniel Bryan were already plenty over at the point where it was decided that John Cena would speak for them. You don't have to be that articulate to speak for yourself in wrestling but I think it's hard to really be seen as your own man (or woman) if you don't.
