I'm watching Undertaker vs. HHH 1 now and it got me wondering: Did anyone ever think Taker would lose a Streak match?

I thought Wrestlemania 21 was the time to do it, if it was going to be done. "The Legend Killer" kills the legend of the streak. Now I know it will never be broken.

The only time they REALLY got me was the first HBK match.

The Hell In A Cell Sweet Chin Music/Pedigree combination at WM28 was definitiely the one point where I genuinely thought it might be. There have been many times where they have put doubt in my mind about whether he will win or not though, and HBK kicking out of the first Tombstone at WM25 springs to mind as well.

before they started to make it a thing yes I expected him to lose at mania, once they started to celebrate/promote it, I hoped I didn't see it happen ( still do.)

Once they started making a really big deal out of it... no. With how much they have hyped it and how long they have kept it going, they have passed the point of no return. No way it can be broken now without a huge fan uproar.

WrestleMania X8.
The feud seemed made for Flair to get revenge, and I didn't think they'd let the streak go double digits.
That and the AA spinebuster

I saw the SCM-Pedigree life and jumped up out of my seat like "IT'S OVER OH MY GOD" and when he kicked out I was like "...wut."

It really is a testament to Taker/HBK/HHH that those matches were executed so well that there were a few times when I got caught up in the moment and thought the streak was over. Call them finisher fests or whatever but they made a lot of people believe as the match was happening when everyone knows that it wouldn't be broken.

I don't ever think it will at any reasonable time. But for all the crap HHH got, the moment he hit that Tombstone I was 100% convinced it was over for that one second. Dude made me mark the hell out.

I had a weird feeling about the Batista match at 23. WWE was all in on Batista and I just thought they might get a little out of control and do it.
I had moments during Mania 26 against Shawn where I thought it might come.

No
And I didn't even notice he had a winning streak at Wrestlemania until they began to mention it.

Match wise, it was the Special ref HBK SCM combo w/HHH's pedigree that I thought that it actually happened, and then it didn't. Holy wow.
Storyline wise and booking wise, the last time I thought it was possible was Randy Orton, Legend Killer vs UT, because I don't think the streak was as hyped as it is now, at that point. I think it was the first WM they reaaaally hyped the streak though as a yearly WM showcase thing for UT.

WM 25 - HBK kicks out of the Tombstone.
WM 27 - HHH Tombstones Taker. I was convinced. Most convinced I've ever been in a streak match.
WM 28 - SCM to Pedigree, so perfectly done.

Once they made a thing of it, I thought they'd build up someone to take it from him and get a huge rub out of it. But they're still scared to give anyone that kind of rub because Lesnar/Lashley or something.
So now it's a marketing tool, looks nice on a t-shirt or a DVD cover.

WM23, WM25 and WM27 had me on edge, especially Batista- but in other cases the storylines made it pretty obvious Taker was winning.
I thought Punk would have had a strong chance to end it had he not stolen the urn and made Bearer an issue, because that all but confirmed he was getting his comeuppance. Had it been face-on-face, it could have gone either way. I figured HBK was about to call it a career during their rematch, and during WM24 I kinda knew Edge was gonna lose to send the crowd home happy.
