I think the only wrestler that can produce that feeling now is Cena, which is why it needs to happen at WMXXX.

WM 24.
Edge was built up as having his own undefeated streak and was 100% being pushed as a guy who would do anything to win.
Add in Hawkins and Ryder interfering, and I was 100% convinced that Edge was gonna cheat his way to a win.

I was convinced Kane would win at WM XIV, especially after he kicked out with authority after the first Tombstone.

I think the only wrestler that can produce that feeling now is Cena, which is why it needs to happen at WMXXX. I'd definitely prefer Cena/Taker, but I think Lesnar could produce some doubt if they can build it up right. He's never lost to Taker, so they could use that as a selling point.

They've done a good job making it seem like its possible. "The Streak" match has been the best Mania match for how many years straight now? Realistically, I've never thought it possible, but I've definitely lost myself in the matches. HBK 1 was the best chance for it to happen.

Both HBK matches, WM 27-29 and 21.

The way Bryan Alvarez described it is how I feel during his matches every Mania: You know going in that Taker isn't going to lose, but during the match you suspend your disbelief and fall for that one big nearfall that always happens. I was at Mania this year, and did not believe for a second Punk would win. But the nearfall after hitting Taker with the urn still had myself and everyone else in my section on our feet.

The way tey could plant real doubt in my mind is if Cena took the Unified World WWE Heavyweight Undisputed One Belt Championship into a belt vs. streak match.
Because I know there's no way Taker is going to resume a full-time schedule, which means he can't win. And I know he has the Streak, which means he can't lose.
Yeah, he could win it and vacate it on Raw the next night or somebody could cash in MiTB on Raw after a near-death Taker win (to set up the next year's Streak match?) but I'd still have doubt.
No way they're going to tie up their only major title and the streak in one match, but if they did ...

See,the one thing that sorta took me out of Punk vs. Taker is I remember Punk pretty much telling saying in an interview that he wasn't going to win before WrestleMania 29. Not that I ever thought he would if that hadn't of happened, but still.

I am not a Cena fan, but it creates that feeling that a loss could happen. I like the idea of Lesnar/Taker though, simply with their past and the fact that Lesnar is a beast. Either match, Cena/Taker or Lesnar/Taker could be great and would be huge. Considering Brock works so infrequently and as does Taker, I think Cena could potentially be the better match.

I'd be worried about Brock hurting Taker. He looked very brittle this year.

After the feud with Kane a few years back for the WHC where Kane won all the matches and The Nexus ended up burying him, I could've bought into a younger guy posing a threat to The Streak with the "Taker doesn't have it" anymore build. But since that was in the middle of the HBK/Triple H series, that moment has passed I feel.

I doubt it will end, though I've heard Taker never really wanted it to go this far. If they could get a young guy, build him up right and have him win, this could ignite a career. This would be even bigger than Jericho becoming the first undisputed champion. Jericho had done some amazing things before that but that is what so many people know him for. The night he beat the Rock and Austin for the undisputed championship.
Ending the streak at this point would be tough, partly because of the double HBK/double HHH. It's changed the nature of the streak. Still I would love for Taker to find a young guy he respects and work with him. Build to the match as early as six months before rather than the usual three months. Really have Taker get into it and then put him over. At the same time I don't think the streak will end. Not even when he's ready to retire.

Cant see anyone ever ending it, but Cena would probably be the most likely choice to be given the honor if it ever happens. It's also the same thing as when there was the sentiment for some young guy to end Ric Flair's career. Yes, there's the argument that a guy could fail, but the other point, could the guy actually overcome being the one known for ending Flair's career? HBK could take, and Cena, for all that's thrown at him, has demonstrated beyond doubt that he can take just about any volatile situation and turn it into some memorable, so he can handle the long-term runoff of being the one to take UT's streak.

The WM X7 match with HHH was the first one I remember expecting him to lose. I remember when HHH hit Taker with the sledgehammer while he was up for the Last Ride, I was certain that was the end. I think it was one of the best false finishes in wrestling history. The ending, with Taker hitting the tombstone was a big surprise/mark out moment because he had not used the move since returning almost a year earlier (at least, as far as I'm aware. I don't think it was in his No Mercy moveset either).
I also sort of thought Orton would win their match at 21. After he beat Orton I never really thought anyone would have a shot. Today, just getting a shot at the streak will make anybody a ton of money so why throw that away? I think Taker should defend it every year that he's alive, seriously.

no not once. I mean I thought that Kane at 14 and perhaps HHH at X7 would beat him, but once they hyped the streak around 18/19 I didn't think twice about it.
