I don't think he's horrible or anything, he's got decent in-ring skill and some magnetism, but he's not the guy you want taking the lead in big matches or feuds. WWE's pretty talent rich right now, so he always seems to be outshined by someone else.

He often seems to do things that just take me out of the match, most notably his trademark flying nothing where he jumps off the top rope and lands on his feet without so much as a token attempt at an axe-handle. This gif would get way better if Orton wasn't able to stop himself from throwing the dropkick when Del Rio took off for the ropes.

The dude was able to get great matches out of the Big Show. I'd think it's safe to say he's good in the ring.

Yeah he has talent and his time in Mexico showed that (apparently, not like Ive researched his matches but he was obviously signed for a reason). It's just annoying when WWE weighs someone down with a pretty lame gimmick for years like he has, it's not his fault he wasnt given a good one. On the other hand who knows maybe it was his idea and someone else would have made it work even but it does just depress me when someone I know has the potential to do better and but the WWE machine makes it hard from the start. Like he didnt have to be "Alberto Del Rio" but he's stuck being that.

Del Rio has always been really good in-ring, it's just that in spite of that, he's not interesting as a character anymore. Your matches can be technically sound and crisp and all that but if your're a complete heat vacuum there's no reason to get invested in them. It's the same thing I thought about Charlie Haas during his WWE run.
Del Rio's gimmick started off good - he played the "rich asshole" character pretty well. It's just that WWE never went as far with the character as they could have, and then took away all the interesting elements he did have (the cars, the pyro, Ricardo), to the point where he just became a generic angry Mexican guy. Between that, and years of wishy-washy, repetitive booking, it's no wonder crowds don't give a shit about the guy.

ADR is hilarious. Anytime he is complimented it ends up being like "Yeah he sucks but..."
It's the same type of phrasing people use when trying to get me to visit reddit or 4chan.

He's good in the ring, but like, I guess there are tons of comparison to him and Rounda Rousey after last night's fight, and most fights in general with her, considering she uses Del Rio's finisher (or well, Del Rio uses her finisher). Justin Henry from Wrestlecrap brought this up on his twitter, as she's the most over person to use that move. And she's the better heel. And she's the more aggressive person and more intimidating. I brought this up in that thread, but there are some many great old pro wrestling cliches used in MMA that are real life, and the reason they were so successful before in wrestling is why they're successful now. Every week, Del Rio comes out and the commentators are going on about how aggressive he is, and he's getting more aggressive, or at least they tried, and then it's just nothing. I think Sandow being more aggressive is a bit better, he's just better at that.
And people may think, oh well, wrestling is fake, it's harder to make heels believable. Bad Influence in the past month have turned themselves around as these goofy comedy heels into obnoxious heels with their treatment of Joseph Park, and that's a good example of two guys who are great heels, and if they acted like that in MMA, would be great heels too. They were douchebag heels before, but now they're being really mean, so it's not like it's outside of their own character traits to be bullies to Joseph Park. And I think that's a good comparison point with Rousey vs Tate, especially compared to other MMA fights where sometimes, the hatred is actually planned out simply to build a fight. Or in the case of Chael Sonnen, he acts like a pro wrestling heel too much, and all his promos come across as fake. So he can be this legit announcer, and then go into full on pro wrestling mode and essentially change characters, where as Bad Influence never really changed characters, they were always mean, but they're just really expressing it more and showing how obnoxious they can be. Rousey was always obnoxious to Tate during that reality show, and if the whole thing is a work, then it's brilliant, but she doesn't change up who she it.
I guess he doesn't have that intimidating look to him in comparison to other people. Mark Henry one minute can dress up as Santa Claus, and the next, go into bad ass mode and people believe it and don't think of him as a joke. People believe this man will f*** shit up, and I think that's why the crowd gravitates towards him, be it as a heel or baby face, because he just looks intimidating.

Yes.
I put Del Rio in the same camp as Orton. I can recognize they're both good wrestlers, but there's never any reason for me to give a crap about them.

Is there seriously this group of phantom mexicans that are marking out so hard for Del Rio just because he's mexican to justify him?
Like they're just losing their shit amidst his conway pop chanting ONE OF US ONE OF US at home?

He's got some good looking moves and he has had some AWESOME matches before but he has got to drop the armbreaker. The thing that makes his matches so dull is that 90% of his offense is just stomping on his opponent's arm.
