I saw someone make this claim and was thinking about something. It's been 917 days since the pipe bomb.
Now, my math is rough but the way I figure 917 days into Steve Austin's big push if you count it from his "win" at the 97 Royal Rumble he was rehashing his feud with Vince McMahon in the Corporate Ministry angle.
If you count it from his Rumble win in 98 that led to his period being out with his neck injury
917 days into the nWo angle they'd run through the Sting feud and the Wolfpac and Goldberg and already passed the Fingerpoke of Doom
So, I'd say it's very hard to keep someone fresh and new for two and a half years. his character may be a bit more generic but he's still winning matches

Just another guy, and yet, he's one of the most popular guys that WWE has right now, and probably one of the two top non-Cena faces they've got at the moment.

The problem is he shouldn't be just another guy

All he does is just win matches now though. Nothing really happens with him. The 1995 Bret Hart comparison is apt. There's signs of things changing though, and the fans want it. The reaction as he slowly turned around after Trips knocked him down was huge. He's a volatile character that needs to be used. Of course other people are getting focus now, so it's alright, but they need to do something with him soon. I think they will.

I'm fine with where Punk is right now.
You can't have everyone in the main event, all the time.

The problem is he shouldn't be just another guy Sad thing is, he's been just another guy since the Lesnar feud ended. They gave him the title, they threw all the legends at him, and there was nowhere to go but down.

I imagine Punk's program heading into WM30 will begin in earnest after the Royal Rumble.

I'm almost positive he's gonna win the Rumble and become the main foil for the Authority. Right now, he's spinning his wheels because there wasn't really anything for him to do after f***ing around with Heyman and his crew for a good chunk of the year.

I actually don't get this viewpoint Punk is not on "just another guy" level, sure his promos have gotten old but he's being treated as being "above" the roster. Punk could challenge Lesnar or for the Title tommorrow and nobody would bat an eye.

The problem is he shouldn't be just another guy my point is is's hard to keep someone new for that long. Even if he's popular, it going to be almost impossible for him to still be shocking or groundbreaking

He just came off a WWE title run over a year long not that long ago.
They're doing about as much as they can do with him without him being in a WWE title feud. The only reason he isn't is because they figure people wouldn't like it that much quite yet. There's also a very real possibility he'll be winning the title again anyway in the coming months.
He certainly isn't being booked as a regular guy. He's booked as being invincible. I mean right now he's feuding with the whole Shield by himself. AND WINNING.

But at this point the only thing CM Punk has to complain about from his original Summer of Punk personality is the lack of ice cream bars.

What show are people watching? He is a legit star. Curtis Axel is "just another guy". Punk is booked and presented a bit differently than Axel. Just a bit.
I can't even comprehend what people think a star is if they don't think CM Punk and Daniel Bryan qualify.

I like what Punk is doing
He's on a bit of a breather, I see it as the quiet in between two storms so to speak.
There's not a lot for him to do right now, so he's in a sort of a holding pattern and having some fun with it
He reminds me of happy go lucky fun babyface Chris Jericho at the moment with his promos and mannerisms.

Pshh, you say that like ice cream bars are just trivial, inconsequential lumps of vanilla ice cream encased by a wafer on a popsicle stick. IT'S MORE THAN THAT TO ME DAMMIT! IT'S ABOUT PRIDE! AND JUSTICE!

It's interesting that in that time he's lost feuds to everybody above him in the pecking order, Undertaker, HHH, Rock, Brock and arguably Cena, I know he's beat Cena several times but that last match on Raw was largely billed as the final chapter in their feud and Cena won it. So it's no wonder some view him as just another guy especially if they think Orton and/or Bryan are now bigger stars than him.
Personally I'm happy with where he is at the moment as he's fun again, I hated his joyless feud with Heyman and wasn't keen on last months of his heel run. He can and will be slotted in at the top again when the time is right.

What's wrong with being "Just another guy"?
Punk is not royalty. He doesn't get to always be in main event. He had his time in spotlight, and he'll have it again.
Simmer down now.

Yeah nowt wrong with being "just another guy". This modern-times insistence that something is amiss or to complain about when each one of our top 100 superstars aren't all getting the same push is a bit tiresome.
As a collective the complaint is there have been too many belts and that renders them meaningless and yet at anyone time there's about 3/4 different guys it's an "outrage" they aren't champion yet.
