If the reports I read about Punk's body being correct, it's better he works these lower-card programs for now. He doesn't need to be main eventing everything, but damn, he made The Shield look AWESOME at TLC in their match, and I think he can do that for a lot of younger talent on the roster.

All I know is that I prefer this face Punk: Over this face Punk: He's fine as a rebel and whatnot, he shouldn't just be a tattooed Cena by any stretch- but on the flipside, his inherent humor and sense of fun is wasted when he's pigeonholed as a DTA Austin-esque loner. I prefer him now as a likable guy that also happens to distrust most management.

I don't mind the way he's being utilized, but man do I hate what's become of his character. He's basically just 2006 Punk with mic time. I miss angry at the world buzzcut Punk so much. That guy had fire. Currently he's coming off like a bit of a dork. The Dwight Schrute haircut isn't helping, either.

Everyone who isn't involved in a title feud is "just another guy" nowadays.

After being constantly in the main event from July 2011 - February 2013, we all needed a break from him in the main event. Plus he was usually in the second most important of the match every PPV after his WWE Title Run. Plus the way he's being built as invincible and the man to break apart The Shield, I won't be surprised he wins The Rumble and Defeats Lesnar for the WWE Championship at Wrestlemania.
I wouldn't be surprised they are pulling all the stops on him so he signs another contract extension.

Everyone who isn't involved in a title feud is "just another guy" nowadays. Even John Cena is just another guy. True, he's the other guy who gets the most spotlight, but WWE the brand is what comes first. It's like Marvel's Avengers films. Yeah, Iron Man is the most popular character of those films, but Robert Downey Jr. is (and has to be) replaceable so that the machine of Marvel movies keeps working. Same thing with WWE. It's the reason, smart in many ways and damaging in many others, why WWE has their 1A, 1B, 1C, and 1D guys. So if 1A goes down, 1B-D can keep going. It's slow and steady progress that risks never getting huge gains. On the flip side, you could bet the house and end up losing your shirt, so was it really worth it? It goes both ways.

Just another guy.
That can beat The Shield by himself whenever he feels like it.

Anger at the world just makes a person look like a lunatic eventually.

Feuding with the Shield, and now the Wyatts, is basically seemingly what WWE does to keep someone relevant if they are not ready to put them into a main event spot at the moment.

This is more beacause of WWE's MASSIVE problem that they have no main event heels besides Orton, and now Lesnar whenever he's around. What else is a top babyface supposed to do if he's not fighting Orton, The Shield, or now The Wyatts? Del Rio? Curtis Axel? Ryback? Sandow? All guys they've made to look like total losers. Hell the fact that I'm listing Michael f***ing McGillicutty in a list of top heels just stresses the point that WWE has very very few main event heels.

It makes me hope that Sheamus is a heel when he comes back. They could really use that. I would say Kane is probably a main event heel, too, but he is also not really in active competition, either.

I've been bored with the "angry-at-the-world" face for quite some time now, so anybody that comes out looking like they're having fun is heading in the right direction with me. I don't need everyone to be Face Bo Dallas, but good lord do I want the badass anti-hero to be put to rest already. It's not the 90's anymore.

Oh wow, Punk's undisputably reached the "established main event babyface who almost never loses" status, and his fanbase STILL can't stop declaring that he's being held back and misused.
You can't make this shit up.

People can't all be in the main event all the time. The roster is loaded with world champions. Something has to give.

But he's not "just another guy".
Zack Ryder is just another guy. He's relegated to house shows and Superstars. His only hope of a Wrestlemania match is a lumberjack match barring something short of a miracle.
Punk's STILL in the upper crust. He's on Raw every week. He OPENED Raw this past week with a promo AND a lengthy match. In some capacity, he will be on the card for Wrestlemania in a major match. Saying Punk is "just another guy" implies there's nothing for the card beyond the title picture, and that's not true.
