I'm almost positive he's gonna win the Rumble and become the main foil for the Authority. Right now, he's spinning his wheels because there wasn't really anything for him to do after f***ing around with Heyman and his crew for a good chunk of the year. I have been thinking the same thing.

Oh wow, Punk's undisputably reached the "established main event babyface who almost never loses" status, and his fanbase STILL can't stop declaring that he's being held back and misused. You can't make this shit up. Not with me. I liked Punk but I think they're overdoing it atm. He'd beat Cena in a "winner is the first person to do the five knuckle shuffle" match right now. It's way overboard. Faces need to lose some, else I am going to start disliking them. I don't care who they are. Winning and winning and winning is boring as shit. A fun face to me drops a match sometimes on their way. Creates some doubt, lets me root for them. Not what's going on with Punk where he just owns the shield 1 on 3 en route to unifying all titles. They want to go for the title (Yay!) but stumble because of the dirty heel! (boo!) but then overcome it (Yay!) get a chance to compete for the title (yay!) lose to the heel that cheated (boo!) but eventually get it done (yay!) This Hogan/Cena shit where the face is just the winner all day every day sucks.

There are some commonalities (heel owner) and the like to the old days, but with the intense online presences, it is hard to be truly different anymore. He does not have the size to be a monster (even Rock or Cena size). Everyone knows the truths of the game now. So you'd better be more than OK on mic work (and he is)and you get to be top tier. If Cena had to step aside, like Edge, then Punk would be the guy. Does he feud with Lesmar? Anyone really think he could beat Lesnar in the real world?

Punk's my favorite, but I like his position right now. After nearly 2 years as a consistent main eventer (or non-Cena match main eventer), it's nice to get a break from the top of the card. Plus, you know they're going to do Punk/Orton at some point in the near future, so they have just let him work with some of the mid-card guys again before he gets another run.

This is kind of funny. Punk is very much not another guy. Know who became a regular guy after losing the WWE title? The Miz. Who went from main eventing Wrestlemania to working the pre-show matches on PPVs and feuding for midcard titles. At the very least, as long as he's perceived to be above challenging for the Intercontinental title, he's really not anywhere close to being on the level of your average member roster.

If Punk's "just another guy..."

Punk doesn't feel like "just another guy" to me at all. He feels like one of the absolute, undisputed top guys in the company. He'd either 2 or three below Cena and Bryan in terms of regular performers to me.

I'm in the same boat he is. Even if it's someone I like, if they're being booked really badly or inappropriately, I'm not going to like it. To enjoy something terrible just because it's someone I like would be a double-standard and I hate those.

Wait, Punk did not 'own the shield'. He BARELY beat them. Barely. Because Roman's eye got screwed up.

Punk is currently about to 'make' Roman Reigns. WWE's 'Next Big Thing'! I fail to see how that means he's just another guy.

This Hogan/Cena shit where the face is just the winner all day every day sucks. I wouldn't say that's a Hogan thing at all, he usually won the end game but he played up the injured/frightened by opponent card in 90% of his WWF/E feuds before overcoming the odds. Which is what overcoming the odds is about, it's not Rey Mysterioing everyone, it's being made to look weaker & questioned over whether the character can recover and overcome things. I agree with you about it being tiresome seeing the face always conquer, but as we've seen at the back end of 2013, sometimes that seems preferable to the WWE making the face lose the end game. As it is I like where Punk is now as it feels that he MUST have a place to go after the abysmal post-Summerslam Heyman/Absolutely Imperfect awfulness, but I feel that Punk loses/looks beaten up enough to make him seem less...all overcoming? He's not quite lost his "I can't be the strongest or quickest guy, I need to have my wits about me to succeed" heel character trends, which is good to see.
