Haven't read comics for a few years but, just heard about the Superior Spiderman series which sounds interesting... but also sounds like it could be utterly amazing or utterly crap.
Is it a good series and worth checking out? I have a soft spot for Spidey's villains and especially Otto Octavious so it sounds definitely interesting to me. Don't wanna spend cash on the comics if it turns out to be bad though.
So, worth checking out?

Absolutely. One of the best things Marvel has going right now.
(And trust me, that *wasn't* a company shill)

Certainly, I mean it's Otto Octavius as Spider-man. I just hope when it doe end and Parker comes back they come up with a solid solution to finalize it.
I'm also secretly hoping Mysterio (Beck) escapes the ultimate universe (which is currently going the way of a tasty dodo, thanks Galactus) and somehow interacts with this spider-man.

I LOVE IT, the current arc with Agent Venom is amazing. Superior Spider-Man also has his own legion of followers and an island that lets hm monitor crime all over the city

Sounds good, I'll have to make an investment a buy a few issues Is there anything else I need to know about what's going on in the Marvel Universe that are referemec/part of the storyline? Been out of the loop for years Certainly, I mean it's Otto Octavius as Spider-man. Ohhh I thought the Ultimate Universe had ended after that storyline were the shit hit the fan and Magneto altered the magnetic poles or whatever? It led to the death of Spiderman. That was around the time I stopped reading but I assumed that was their way of writing the universe off.

How long until Slott gets booted off the title so we can get Peter frickin' Parker back.
Seriously at this point it feels like a joke they've tried to stretch way too thin. Though in all honesty, there's no way they'll keep Ock as Spidey going into the second Amazing Spiderman flick.

That was around the time I stopped reading but I assumed that was their way of writing the universe off. nah it limped along for a bit after Ultimatum. Ultimate Spider-man was still doing well until Bendis killed off Peter (I don't think it was his idea, even if he says it was) and while it continued to sell well, it started falling off. and at the same time Mark Millar returned to Ultimates to write probably the most tasteless and offensive take on the Red Skull ever seen, which turned off most readers who weren't already weary after Jeph Loeb's literary lobotomy. after that it was mostly handed to John Hickman to try and salvage, but it never really took off. ditto the new Ultimate X-men title where the writer had to pretty much make new ripoffs of existing characters because Loeb pretty much killed them all. Galactus eating the planet's pretty much a mercy kill.

Though in all honesty, there's no way they'll keep Ock as Spidey going into the second Amazing Spiderman flick. Don't bet everything you have on that. Marvel isn't lining up their books to coincide with the Sony- and Fox-licensed movies anymore, not since they launched their own studio. Remember, they aren't really eager to promote those films; they want those properties back.

But I just feel like it should less about promoting the movie and instead trying to drum up more interest in the title off the movie hype. I mean Doc Ock being Spiderman was a weird enough turn for seasoned comic book fans, how do you sell it beyond that niche? Also I just really want Parker back under the hood.

Ultimate Rhino is a robot though since when? like I said, though, it would be stupid if 616 Rhino were suddenly a robot. or, for that matter if Electro were suddenly blue.

I haven't followed from issu one because I want the books together, but the premise and the couple of issues I've read hooked me.

Ultimate Rhino is a robot though since when? like I said, though, it would be stupid if 616 Rhino were suddenly a robot. or, for that matter if Electro were suddenly blue. Electro is based on his Ultimate Look, and Alexander O'Hirn's Rhino was a robot/power armor he stole from the government

Electro is based on his Ultimate Look, and Alexander O'Hirn's Rhino was a robot/power armor he stole from the government so he was a cyborg? that's not quite the same thing. the movie poster I saw he literally looked like a robotic rhinoceros, not even anthropomorphic. I'm starting to think with 3 villains this movie's going to be a bit of a mess.

Nah, ultimate Rhino is more like a giant impenetrable mech, the armor is known as R.H.I.N.O. Not a cyborg.

Is that why Marvel has been doing this storyline with the inhumans?

Haven't read that one, but Superior Foes of Spiderman is a GREAT superhero book. I will second this. I couldn't fully get invested with Superior Spider-man, but The Superior Foes is great.
