After hearing all about the Big Bang Theory from friends I decided to watch it, and it wasn't as good as everyone said it was in my opinion, that's just what I think but the main reason that I can't stand the show is Sheldon Cooper, I just find him to be annoying and obnoxious, the stuff he does isn't even that funny in my opinion, just irritating,
I might watch some more just to see but I defiantly remember hating Sheldon.

That's the same reason I don't watch it. He is not an enjoyable character.

This show isn't for everybody obviously, but I enjoy it and usually put it on as background noise.

Sheldon started off as a really enjoyable character and I liked him in the pilot in particular. The more they amped up his social awkwardness, emotional retardation and apparent complete non-understand of how humans have physical or emotional relationships for laughs the more and more detestable he became, to the point that once they introduced the love interests and slowly tried to 'teach' him how to be a real person it was far far too late. In fact it was so late that it actually made him more detestable in some ways, the way he treats Amy at points is sickening.
Unfunny. Full stop.

I like it alright. I think it simultaneously gets both too much praise AND too much scorn.
It's a decently enjoyable sitcom I'll watch from time to time. I like Sheldon alright; the thing about him being annoying is that he's supposed to be. I'll grant you that's obvious and you may still not like him as a result, but it's not as if they were not making him that way from the outset on purpose.

I haven't seen that many episodes so you'd have to fill me in on the topic {Spoiler}{Spoiler}He is just generally a pig and even though Amy basically drools over him and gives him her all, he constantly finds loopholes to not do things for her. He attempts to avoid being emotionally or physically close with her at all costs and even invites Raj along on their anniversary date. Of course as he's ditching her to play Star Wars Online or something the laugh track is chuckling along yet Amy is visibly upset and it's completely unfunny. He's a prick.

I still contend the biggest pop the show will ever get is the minute someone, anyone, just reaches over, grabs his lightsaber, and sticks it firmly up his ass, then smothers him dead with his cushion.

I love the show, and Sheldon's actually my favorite character. I don't think any of the characters are good guys or sympathetic, except for Amy.

I hope the character get's killed off by a knife wielding burglar.

I like the show and the character myself
For me the whole point of the character is that's he appears to be douche because he doesn't function as a normal person. I'm sure I read somewhere that Jim Parsons said he believes the character has Aspergers. The creators say that he doesn't but at the very least we can all agree he's not a normal person. And watching him struggle to understand how others function and attempting to ape that behaviour himself at times is part of why I like him
As for why they hang out with him. Sheldon didn't snitch on Leonard when he almost gave secrets away to North Korea and the others hang out with Leonard who hangs out with Sheldon
The difference in the first few episodes is noticeable though
That's just my opinion and you know that old saying about opinions and ass***** ha

I wouldn't have any issue with the character if it didn't seem like he's never going to develop into anything other than what we see now.

I despise BBT with a passion but the most annoying thing is people call me Sheldon because I read comics.

I hate that show, save for getting to know that David from Roseanne is working again. I find it insincere. If it were put together by proper dorks, it could be really good.
As to Sheldon, he's a good heel, but he's in Vickie Guerrero territory. I don't want to see him to hate him. I want him to die.
