Here's the easy way that they could have done the WWE title match at Mania to keep EVERYONE happy...
-TLC: Cena wins the titles, Bryan and Punk both get screwed in their handicap matches
-Royal Rumble: Cena retains against Orton or someone else, Punk and Bryan are the final two in the Rumble but Bryan pulls it out after pinning Bray earlier (with a roll-up or what have you). Punk eliminates Reigns, Bryan eliminates the two Wyatts to give closure to the issues in a way.
-Elimination Chamber: Bryan puts up his shot against Orton after the Authority demands it, and makes him tap out in the process. Batista could stop HHH from helping Orton if they were so dead-set against it. Punk and Cena are the last two in the Chamber, and similar to their NOC match, there is a double pin causing controversy.
Punk and Cena have it out the next night on Raw, which results in The Shield interfering again and another no decision. Bryan helps them out, and they all stare down in front of the Mania sign. The next week, Punk/Bryan/Cena vs The Shield happens, and The Shield has a dissention causing those three to win. At the end of the match, a triple threat for the title is announced.
Mania: Bryan vs Punk vs Cena for the WWE title, which Bryan wins by pinning Cena.
EASY BOOKING TO KEEP PUNK AND THE FANS HAPPY!

Assuming its true, it's incredibly classless of Punk. WWE insists guy wrap up their Indy dates before joining simply because it's bad for fans if guys pull out at the last minute and bad for the indys. But Punk won't extend that same courtesy to WWE fans? He could have said to Vince to take him off house shows and write him out at Wrestlemania. Not difficult to do as could do the HBK angle all over again. That would have been better for everyone than this. I love Punk in the ring but I would hate to meet him outside just because he's capable of things like this. WWE will do the only thing they can do now, which is to place Punk on the everlasting s**tlist alongside Benoit and Jeff Jarrett because he's screwed the company and screwed the fans. Even Lesnar had the decency to give a bit of notice he was walking out. There may come a day where Punk is down on his luck with not a dime coming in as WWE rewrite history to ensure he doesn't get a penny and his hall of fame ticket has been ripped up and thrown away. That day he'll call that idiot daughter and doofus son in law and they'll tell him where to stick his reconciliation. And it'll have been deserved. Tl;dr - love punk, but he can go suck a bag of d***s for this. Yeah How dare a worn down, beaten up Punk want to stay off the road? He should keep working until he becomes like Edge.

And Jeff Jarrett didn't do anything wrong, he just found a loophole and exploited it.

If this is actually true, while he could've handled it better, I can't say I blame him. I'm surprised he didn't leave after he jobbed to Triple H while he was white hot. Plus, the guy has been vocal about wanting to headline WrestleMania for years now, only to watch as someone like Rock or Batista stroll in and collect their 'Mania main even pay day and leave.
But oh well. As a Punk fan, I certainly think this sucks (if it's true). It's definitely one less reason for me to be interested in current WWE.

This is the first time I've seen a thread this long on this site and read every single page, usually I ust read the first and last pages so I know what has happened and where the conversation is now but Punk is one of my all-time favourites and this f***ing sucks for me.
From a WWE point of view though I don't think they'll see this as a massive blow. Vince has made it so no wrestler is really a draw anymore, the WWE brand is. And that's not a knock on Punk or anyone else that's just how Vince has the company setup nowadays. So from their point of view Punk leaving isn't going to cost them that much. Plus now they can chill the crowd out about Bryan. They can push Bryan into Punk's place in a high-profile feud with Triple H and use it as an example that they are listening to us and pushing Bryan without having to change their main-event of Batista vs. Randy Orton. Which sucks for all of us but is kind of a nice position for WWE to find themselves in.
But one of my all-time favourites is probably gone and retired for good - which as a fan, really sucks. But Punk has been a source of entertainment for me for about 12 years now, he's been fantastic over that time and I;m very thankful for everything he's given me. I wish him all the best in the future.

I think he just needs to rest before mania. No way he would quit before the biggest payday of the day. You do that after.

This one of those things where I'm shocked, but not all that surprised. I'm shocked that he left before Mania, but I'm not surprised that he left since he's just seemed worn out and grumpy over the past couple of months. If he's not feeling it, he should leave and give his spot to someone else.
I have every reason to think that cooler heads will prevail and he'll be back with the company at some point. It really sucks that he's leaving, though. He, Bryan and the Shield are the main reasons I still watch.

People crying for WWE is just.... have you seen CM Punk? That guy is perpetually run down. Siding with a corporation over a person is just ooky to me.

What's Phil Brooks doing in the Impact Zone? .... hahhaha
Weird story, in that it could be kayfabe at this point and possibly something CM Punk would do for real.
The timing is definitely suspect though, after that Royal Rumble PPV I'm sure a lot of the "top" (read, main event, but not from the Ruthless Aggression Era back) stars were probably fit to be tied.
As someone who started watching again regularly because of Punk vs Hardy, I kind of hope he does go. He's done all he can do in the company.
If true, the f***ING GENIUS of it all is, Punk probably knows that leaving WWE and then coming back in a few years will get him a bigger payday and higher profile position in the company than just working a regular schedule.
Which says a lot about stupid the company can be.

While I would have prefer Punk putting someone over big before he left, I don't blame for wanting to leave. It's a tough business and he probably knows his body is ticking time bomb in regards of getting another serious injury.
Enjoy the bingo hall Punk!

I hope so very much that htis is just a storyline.
But if it's not, I don't really blame him at all. He's a grown man, he's free to do whatever he wants. He wasn't in the middle of any huge storyline, if he wanted to leave, now was just as good a time as any other.
