If true, I'm gutted. I just bought plane tickets yesterday to fly out for Extreme Rules in May with the hope of seeing Punk and Bryan live since they're two of my most withstanding fandoms after about a decade.

For those thinking this had something to do with Batista, CM Punk had an interview recently where he said Batista's return is different since unlike Rock and Brock, he's returning full time for a good period of time.
This whole situation seems really easy to explain to me. CM Punk was supposed to face Triple H at Mania and now because of the reaction to the Rumble, Daniel Bryan is facing him instead. That leaves Punk without a marque match to be in so he's saying f*** it I'm going home instead.
I guess they could do Cena vs. Punk again instead of Cena vs Bray but I doubt WWE would budge

.....why did I know this would be the name of the thread about this news item?
Anyway, sucky news but if he's not happy then probably best to part ways.
Part of me would love to say "plus Bryan into his spot" but then I realize (a) he'd probably job to HHH quicker than Punk would've, and (b) if there's anyone on the roster who's getting "punished" for Punk leaving, it's Bryan.
And finally, if it is the end, let us always remember that CM Punk's final WWE appearance was getting weirdly ejected from the Royal Rumble by a 15+ year veteran who was eliminated an hour earlier and hung around visibly at ringside the entire match.

CM Punk might have just achieved Wrestling nirvana. Retire without burning yourself out, jumping to TNA or being penniless. Or star in the Scorpion King.

It's hard to say whether Punk knew what the plans for Batista was at the time. He may have been fine with him returning but not with him getting the Rumble win and title shot at Mania. Though really, this is one of these things where I doubt we ever find out the real reason.

Well, with recent actions. Guy has probably figured that if he wants to headline WM then it's easier to take 4 years off than work 300 days a year.
If you can't beat that guy, be that guy.

if there's anyone on the roster who's getting "punished" for Punk leaving, it's Bryan. Kofi. Punk's best friend (on the tour) and easily replaceable. Then it would be AJ, who is way more over than Kofi and I think less replaceable.

I've seen this type of comment come up a lot already... I might need some examples of this kind of thing happening in the past where one person in a relationship has left and the other that stayed on has gotten punished for it, because none come to mind right now. Morrison wasn't buried because Melina left. He was buried because he decided not to renew his contract after his injury.

If the plan is to add Bryan to the WWE title match, and Punk is upset because he wants to close the show before his career ends, just make it a four-way to shut him the hell up.
Seriously, Punk being there certainly wouldn't hurt the match quality, and he'd finally get his show-closing moment, and you wouldn't have to lose him for however many house shows between now and Mania he'd been booked for. I mean, Vince spent the better part of the 90s kowtowing to Shawn. I'm not saying it's right to have to kowtow to Punk, since I think he's been a complete and utter pill, and seems like the most miserable man in the world next to Austin Aries, but this doesn't have to turn into a situation where you lose a top guy.

The man does deserve time off but before Mania I feel like he is pissed off. I guess I would be too if I went from Being the champion at WM, to facing Taker, too this year facing Kane who hasn't been in the ME spot in a couple years. If my ME spot was handed over to someone like Batista I guess I be un happy too.

Then it would be AJ, who is way more over than Kofi and I think less replaceable. Kofi is like Undertaker. He can no show 364 days a year but you know that he'll be there when it matters. Undertaker shows up for Mania, and Kofi is Mr. Royal Rumble.
