- Regarding Roman Reigns’ WWE future, it’s said that officials have the idea that Reigns will be “the guy” one day. They feel Reigns may be their “heir apparent” to John Cena.

Cena's an aberration in modern days. I like Reigns and they'll push him like a main eventer, but there's not likely to be another Cena for a while.

I like to think of him less as the next Cena and more as a considerably upgraded Kevin Nash.

Impossible to tell. I hope for his sake that's totally made up, cuz it'd be horrifically unfair for them to shoulder the guy with that sorta expectation.

I'm still holding out hope that Daniel Bryan becomes that guy. I like Reigns but he doesn't scream "that guy" to me, main event for sure though.

Remember when they said Sheamus was being groomed to be the next John Cena?
Yeah...let's just let guys be the first them rather than the next "insert star of yesteryear here".

Next Batista? I can see. Next Cena? Naw, not well-rounded enough of talent to match what Cena does as a performer.

Nobody's gonna be the next Cena until Cena disappears for good.

"Next Batista" is as far as I can ever see Reigns going. The guy is great in the ring and has a look that's perfectly in line with what WWE likes, but the dude just does not have the "it factor" in the slightest whatsoever.

Let him be the First Roman Reigns. Guy's got a great look, got talent, and Charisma.

The audience likes him and thinks he's cool, but he doesn't connect with them. Batista was always the same way. That's why WWE will be stupid if they don't realize that Bryan is that guy. He's connecting with the fans in a way that only an elite few have ever done.

Reigns works amazing as a heel and face. You can't have him be "the guy" without having him alternate between the two. He's great but we need to see his work ethic and need to see how he lasts in the long run. You cannot shove him down everyone's throat like Cena. You just can't.
They said the same thing with Sheamus a while back too so really I doubt this. WWE Officials don't know a thing. A good thing about this is that Reigns wants to be the #1 singles competitor in the WWE so he has the drive, we just have to hope he continues it.

I kinda agree that he will be like the next Batista, but will he be the next Batista for us in this board?

There is no That Guy. Though, the very fact that they've singled HIM out, with all the talent working for them, shows how trapped they still are in the Vanilla Midget mindset.
Even if there WAS a That Guy, it wouldn't be Reigns. He doesn't have the range. Reigns needs range.

Multigenerational star shoved into a team with more talented guys and protected from having to do much of anything that might expose any limitations as a performer, while being seen as the future of the company?
That sure worked out for Ted Dibiase Junior.

That sure worked out for Ted Dibiase Junior. Ted DiBiase Jr got nowhere near the amount of protection that Reigns got. BOTH Dibiase and Rhodes were treated as cannon fodder during Legacy, and his Best of 100 series with Daniel Bryan was pretty one sided. And once he turned face they pretty much forgot about him. Aside from the DX feud, there was never anything in Ted's booking that hinted that they were booking him to look like he could hang with top guys.
