"For Whom The Sweetie Belle Toils"...gets an 8/10 for me.
What I liked about this episode:
-The whole dream sequence was really well-made. Lots of interesting imagery, we finally got to see a new age-look (for ponies at the age of 5) and the whole story that developed through there was told in a nice way.
-Sapphire Shores reappearance was good to see as well. Definitely as sassy as in her first appearance and I get the feeling she was characterized in a nice manner (she is like a diva but she did praise her background singers efforts showing that she is still a pony being at heart).
-The CMC interactions were also pretty good and interesting in this one. They hit it out of the park mostly with them (their discussion about Sapphire Shores, them talking before the play, the irony in their explaining how to behave towards the crowd). Simply great to have them there.
-OH MY GOD! LEMON HEARTS TALKED! LEMON HEARTS TALKED! LEMON HEARTS TALKED! MY GOD! MY GOD! SHE TALKED! SHE TALKED!
What I didn't like about this episode:
-That one is a real toughie for me. Before going into this thread, I was firmly on LC's side of things regarding Sweetie Belle's behaviour. She didn't give Rarity even a chance since she never pinpointed the exact problem (that all her work was overlooked over her big sis's dresses), coming off as really unlikable at first.
But now after having read the whole discussion here, I am torn between LC's and Nikki's positions. For now I'll go with my first impression, but it could be that my rating will change next time I see this episode.
-Felt like the episode could have been paced a little better (I thought some of the scenes were too short while others were too long).
So, going out with a 8/10 on this one.

Don't know if this is an edit or what anime this is, but I got a chuckle. And @desertassassin, what did you think of Lemon Hearts' voice?

I liked the voice. Didn't sound that off from her other two lines she already had.
(figures the only things I can find from the Spanish/Latino/whatever dub).

As much as Rarity knows her own sister, she's not a mind reader. And when designing customized pieces, you gotta tell the seamstress everything. You can't just walk into a tailor shop and say, "gimme a suit" and then complain when it's the wrong color. But if you go in there with a vague design of what you want, then you can complain if what you get isn't anything like it. And regardless about the quality of the dress, it doesn't change Rarity's fairly flippant response to SB being upset about the play. Even if the complaint was childish, it does no good to prance away waxing about how good your contribution to it was when she's clearly upset. That's just basic empathy. If you didn't say that you wanted frilly sleeves, then don't complain when the designer doesn't add frilly sleeves. And Sweetie Belle did said that the dresses were perfect, so of course Rarity would be relived at that. But then Sweetie Belle wouldn't give Rarity a chance to even talk or apologize (like she intended to) once she went on that anger filled tirade.

Also like the following re. Lemon Hearts...
I don't know if that was complete coincidence or if one of the writers/animators paid attention, but:
In two out of three speaking appearances, Lemon Hearts was shown to be interested in fashion.

Anyway, I'm probably going 6/10 in this one.
Sure, the dream sequences were absolutely spectacular, and I love the reappearance of Sapphire Shores, but these nice long conversations just emphasized why I wasn't too fond of it. Rarity didn't do anything wrong.
Maybe I'll change it later on, but it's not guaranteed.

What were YOU thinking I meant? {Spoiler}Yeah, I know, but when she put on the lipstick I instantly thought of you.

Well, the 10-year old version can sleep at my bed anytime, as long as she doesn't put on lipstick.
Like in Eunos dream I mean.

I don't know, you're acting like SB was venting at her for hours. It was a really short conversation before Rarity left. Whether the dresses were perfect or not isn't the the big issue, it's that as soon as she heard that the costumes weren't the problem, she happily trotted off, rather than listening to her. Her sister was upset, and Rarity recognized that that, but she just didn't care enough to hang around for more than a minute. Yes, she was busy, but it's still a bit of a dick move to happily saunter off while saying you're part was perfect when your little sister is really upset about how her play went. It's like you're just not allowing a child to feel disappointed about anything.
