DC's biggest pop culture impact in the last decade was a dark and gritty adaptation of their top character... So now everything must be that way.
I don't get that logic. It's stupid stupid stupid. It's one thing if they were pushing this aesthetic only with their movies but I can't understand why it affects their comic books. That's supposed to be the playground, the medium where you can have all these different tones, characters and concepts co-exist under the same umbrella. It just doesn't make sense to me.
Which makes their reasoning even more stupid, because said "dark and gritty" adaption fit that character to a T. If only they would see that TDK worked because they were being true to Batman's world, and all they have to do is take each character, one by one, and see what made them work.
Dan DiDio goes jogging "On your left" says the entirety of Marvel
They aren't exactly innocent within the realm of their comics, either. They pull dumb stunts all the time, too. Granted, not DC stupid, but stupid nonetheless.
Someone had a really good example of the difference between DC and Marvel:
Marvel is the dudebro that says and does stupid shit which drives people away, but you can smooth out some of the edges by sitting him down and telling him how and why some of the shit he does is stupid. While there still might be things he'll keep doing because it's out of habit he's at least open and willing to learn most of the time.
DC is the dudebro that says and does stupid shit which drives people away and no matter what you tell him or how you explain it to him he's going to keep being a moron because he never thinks he's doing anything wrong...then as an added bonus, DC will complain about how nobody will hang out anymore as his circle of friends gets smaller and more fringe-y, practically guaranteeing nobody new is going to hang out with him.
At this point the only things DC does better than Marvel now are cartoons and video games.
What makes this sad is I kinda want to be "that dude" and qualify what you mean.
Like, I wouldn't even say DC does video games better than Marvel considering you've got one that's become a major staple in the fighting game community (Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3) and DC has one that still lags far behind (Injustice).
Honestly, the only thing DC does better than Marvel these days is Batman. And how long is it going to take before Marvel comes with a game comparable to the Arkham games?
Though I will say if there's one thing that could bite Marvel in the ass it's their desire to have all their comic book properties sync up with their live action versions.

Oh it will take Marvel a while to get a video game comparable to the Arkham series due to them going to Activision for nearly all of their games. And Activision doesn't have the strongest recent track record all things told.
Koda's Favorite Fall 2016 Anime Openings and Endings
We need another ultimate alliance... not really comparable to Arkham games... but just in general
Co-sign. I know they've got that new "free" MMO, but I want an actual disc-based console game. And for the love of all things holy, please bring back the original developer. The guys who developed Ultimate Alliance 2 sucked all the fun out of it.

Even at their worst, I would still read a DC book over Marvel's shock value shlock anyday, and their tv shows, from cartoons to live-action, are infinitly better than whatever Marvel offers.
I see Marvel as a certain Animaniac attired in the Emperor's new clothes. Sooner or later, everyone will not only notice they're naked, but that they're also a giant chicken.

Expressing another unpopular view here, but I don't even think Marvel's movies really are all that great and don't hold up after a while either. They're harmless fun, but there's nothing between the ears, which is why Winter Soldier was such a pleasant surprise for me.

The Tank
Treads & Threads Didn't bribe enough to get anything besides this overly long rambling title.

This might not suck. If I were involved I would do the following things:
1) Use Grayson as a mission specialist in a team. Because he is a bit of a celebrity now whose reputation will precede him, he cannot be a truly capable spy but can be a fantastic distraction that allows the rest of his team to work in the shadow that he casts.
2) Have a somewhat gruff foreign woman in the company on a different team that is in a similar role to Grayson's. She will be a rival/love interest character (if he is no longer associating with the Bat Family he needs someone to tease/banter with.

I really think sometimes there is unjustifiable hate againts DC. Don't get me wrong there is alot to hate about them but not that much more than Marvel. In fact if you compare the list of must read or good comics from each company you will find they are closer than you think.

Thankyou. It's so in vouge right now to chastise DC for everything right now, but both of the big companies have done woefully stupid things, I don't get how anyone can say Marvel learn from their mistakes when the last seven years worth have shown they have utter contempt for their big leauge characters. All the best Marvel stuff lately has been the c and d list material
I must be the only man on these FAN boards that likes DC more than Marvel. Well it fluctuates from time to time but still.
Contrary to what it might seem, I'm Johnny DC. That doesn't mean I don't believe DC in general is the shits right now.
Like Koda, there are only very specific things in DC that I like and unfortunately it's thanks to Nu52. The problem is that used to be how I've felt about Marvel and right now there's a few more specific things I like about Marvel than DC.
I mean, for a dude who likes Static, Wonder Woman, Vic Stone, Cassandra Cain and Wally West, for instance? Ain't really shit for me to like in DC.
I tell ya, in about five years when this is all rebooted out of continuity we're gonna look back on this shit and laugh and laugh and laugh and laugh...
You're giving it 5 years? I'll be surprised if it lasts 2.
But yeah, I completely agree with the sentiment
