At least it's better than the Devils having Bryce "The Human Traffic Cone" Salvador as Captain.
I still don't understand why he's Captain. He's been terrible since they put the C on his sweater. Hell, give it to Jagr.

Assistants? Really, Habs? Makes sense. They are a young team, let another season to find out who will be the true captain to lead the team for years. Plus Subban and Pac haven't even been Assistant captains yet. So they can't be the captain The problem is that its alternate captain not assistant. Because in this situation who are you assisting?

Hell, give it to Jagr. For RT I meant alternate my bad. Jagr apparently doesn't like being a captain. According to Jason Strudwick who played with him in the rangers they said even though Jagr wasn't the captain, he was the man that they listened to the most and looked up the most. Plus captains have to do all the bullshit like talking to refs for every penalty and such

Speaking of Rangers and captains, it's heavily rumored that it is expected that Ryan McDonagh will be named as their next captain. Great choice, but why not go with a veteran like St.Louis?

Probably because he just became a part of the team in March. McDonagh's been a part of this core of Rangers since they were assembled more or less 3 years ago. I mean, Stamkos became captain in Tampa, not Callahan. Besides, as has been explained many times over, you don't need a letter to be a leader in the locker room.

Probably the same reason why Selanee was never the captain in Anaheim. Getzlaf was the future and will be on the team for a long time potentially a lifer while Selanee was getting close to retirement.

10 years ago today, the NHL officially locked out the players. This would lead to the entire 2004-05 season being cancelled.

The Central Hockey League, which lost three teams in the offseason, is in talks with the ECHL to merge prior to the 2014-15 season, which begins in just under a month. The deal is that they would play a modified schedule where all the CHL teams would play against each other and only each other, but still get to qualify for the Kelly Cup playoffs. twitter.com/darrylwolski/status/511643632474914817

I think I get your point of view, but Hockey's popularity declined after that. I remember when Hockey got a lot of coverage on ESPN and treated on par with the other sports. Now its a distant 4th sport in media coverage.

I don't remember what the result of the lockout was. I just remember it being a big reason why I stopped watching hockey for a few years, and that was a season removed from my team winning the Stanley Cup in 2003.

The league's bouncing back and is seeing revenues never before seen by the league. Not only that, but that lockout officially ended the DPE and ushered in a new, more offensive league(Granted, we're slowly reverting back to the DPE, butI still feel the league is balanced scoring wise). The half-lockout two years ago was a genius move as well. People swore of the league and when they ended the lockout in January, everybody and their mothers flooded back like desperate heroin addicts to their dealer.

The Central Hockey League is no more.
Plans have been put in place for the league to merge with the ECHL, but the details are still early. If I find anything concrete, I'll post it.

That is disconcerting to say the least. We need more small-leagues like the CHL in the States to expose more people who can't go to an NHL game on a regular basis to instill that love of the game. Hopefully they do merge with the ECHL. Anyways, in lighter news, as your reigning king of Fantasy Hockey, I'm going to start the league up very soon,so look forward to that. Also, as your reigning Fantasy Hockey overlord, I expect each and every one of you to pay your respects for your king is kind and just.

I got so depressed last season (thanks Eakins) that I gave up on fantasy hockey lol

Follow them and only watch the Oilers sparingly. Also, you did well last year. You ended up in 4th. You know wanna come back.

I didn't even know where I ended lol. That means I have to buy center ice and adapt to eastern time zones. Not going to lie I'm actually looking forward to this season. I think there's actually room for improvement this season (not a playoff team because the western conference is way too f***ing stacked and almost every team improved) but the worst you could do is get a shot at Conor McDavid. Also the draft odds gotten lower for lower seeded teams. *puts on tinfoil hat* They just did that so a Bettman Seven or big market team team has a better chance of landing McDavid.

I still think Buffalo tanks again for that kid. In fact, I'd love to see him in Buffalo because a franchise like them needs a Crosby-like player and they'll be as far away from the Kings as possible outside of the two games we play them. So yeah, good luck Eastern Conference if what I think will happen, happens.

If the Flyers miss the playoffs they'll win the lottery because conspiracy.

If the Flyers miss the playoffs they'll win the lottery because conspiracy. I've been saying this for months. Anywho let's look at the possibilities. Teams very likely to guarantee to suck this season: -Winnipeg -Ottawa -Toronto -Calgary -Edmonton -Carolina -Buffalo -Florida Best chance is Buffalo or Toronto for the conspiracy theorists. McDavid saves the Sabres franchise but Maple Leafs coverage will triple nationwide in Canada because of McDavid (doubled because of Rogers deal) Teams that probably suck this season but maybe good: -Arizona -Nashville -Washington -NY Islanders (cause Islanders are cursed) -Philadelphia -NY Rangers (they got gutted during the off season) Conspiracy theorist odds is Rangers or Flyers but a Crosby/McDavid rivalry in the same state is just too juicy pass up. Darkhorse Washington so they get their own Crosby/Malkin pairing.
