I'd like to take this time to point out that NBC Sports is pushing Boston vs. Detroit as a "Wednesday Night Rivalry" game.
You know, the red hot blood feud between the Bruins and Wings.
Much fight. Very feud. So wow.
I'm so sick of this gimmick. NHL rivalries are one of the big things the NHL can honestly push as something they do better than the other leagues, given the physical nature of the sport and the level of noise/chanting you get in an 18,000 seat arena vs. a wide open stadium. I know we wouldn't get something like Oilers vs. Flames even if both teams were competitive, since US networks don't get Canadian ad revenue, obviously, but this is an ideal time slot to put in the current hottest rivalries or the most consistent, historical ones: Bruins vs. Habs, Kings vs. Blackhawks, any combo of the California teams or any combo of Devils/Rangers/Flyers/Islanders (if the Isles are indeed legit this year), Flyers vs. Penguins, Red Wings vs. Blackhawks, etc. etc. etc. Or, you could take teams that have spent the last couple of years fighting at the top of divisions, and do things like Blues vs. Avalanche or something.
Instead, this gimmick just takes the same "Bettman Six" teams we always get and just says "It's the same exact teams...but we're pretending they're BLOOD RIVALS now! GET HYPE." Great, thanks. Can't wait for iteration #4,563 of Penguins vs. Bruins, but with new rivalry downloadable content!

Good. I'm glad Calgary won. I don't want them having a better chance of drafting McDavid then Edmonton. Even though Edmonton has major potential of ruining the most hyped prospect since Crosby who currently has 20points in 7 games this season like how they ruin all their high end draft picks and the league probably knows this and will make sure Edmonton won't have a chance of ruining their next big money maker. So I'm predicting The Flyers getting him if they miss the playoffs.

I don't know if it's just early season stuff but I've been really impressed with the Caps so far this season. They seem to have gotten their shit somewhat together on defense

Somewhere, the soulless WE LOVE LA AND CHICAGO ABOVE EVERYONE ELSE hockey stay geeks are gloating over the Avs.
Ever since I picked a TB-COL SCF, literally NOTHING has gone right for the Avs.
But for everyone saying Colorado is unsustainable... what IS sustainable? Apparently, only the Kings and Blackhawks are.

But they are winless with a -12 differential and allowed 22 goals already. I do appreciate the irony that the Oilers once again are creating high scoring games! Like the f***ing coyotes got seven goals! |
