Well it's official. The oilers are now on a 3 game winning streak. They have tied their longest winning streak of last season. Is there a way we can get Edmonton in the eastern conference?

Saw the Fuel win their first game last night, a 5-1 victory over Missouri. They went nuts in the 3rd period.
I also wanted to make sure to see it because I knew the Indianapolis Star would not mention the results the next day, which is still true.
And, I'm hoping Carolina breaks the Capitols' long-standing record for season opening futility.

The Devils shootout woes continue as they fall 3-2 to the Stars. They haven't won a shootout during the regular season since March of last year.

Busy weekend for the Blackhawks, at the Blues tonight in a grudge match, and then hosting the Senators tomorrow.

Picture this:
The pregame in Ottawa, simulcast in Toronto and Montreal. O Canada playing and full crowds in all three cities singing along in unison (although with translation differences - but that's part of the charm of Canada).
I don't think I've ever had greater goosebumps from that national anthem. I sure hope it ends up being uploaded somewhere.

Another close away defeat for the Blackhawks. Sens at home tonight, Scott Darling could make his NHL debut in net.

Olli Määttä has been diagnosed with a tumor, which could be a low-level cancer.

Olli Määttä has been diagnosed with a tumor, which could be a low-level cancer. That sucks and this kid is 2 years younger than I am. Also, what is it with the Pens and their defensemen being victim to life-altering disorders?

Just as a clarification, it might be a thyroid cancer. Which. if you have to get cancer that's the best one to get. A lot of thyroid cancers usually stay isolated in their little part of the thyroid without ever spreading to other parts of the body. And pretty much all of them except for one very rare kind have really high survival rates. Even Stage 4 (which is the most developed and serious kind of cancer progression) of the most common kind of thyroid cancer has a 97-100% long-term survival rate.
Though these types of tumors are usually benign anyway, though it is more likely to be cancerous in young adults 20 and younger and seniors.
To give you an idea of how optimistic Maata's prognosis is, he's going to play right up until the day of surgery, and should be back playing within 4 weeks or so.

Read recently that Nathan Horton's career may very well be over due to a degenerative spine/back condition.
If true, that absolutely sucks. Set aside my feelings of gratitue for his major role in thethe '11 Cup run. You don't want to see anyone's career (and life) derailed like that.

Nasty hit from behind in the Rangers/Wild game - Kreider tossed from the game for a hit into the boards on Brodin.

Duclair scores his 1st NHL goal to tie the game late.
AND ZUCCS SCORES SECONDS LATER TO GIVE THE RANGERS THE LEAD! OH WOW!

It's odd; I know it's early, so standings don't mean very much, but I'm perplexed how the Rangers are near the bottom of the Metro division, yet they seem to win and score at a breakneck pace any time I put their games on this season.
Welp, guess I'll swear off watching 'em going forward.

Edmonton grab their fourth win in a row with a 3-0 victory against Montreal.

Edmonton grab their fourth win in a row with a 3-0 victory against Montreal. I don't know what's more shocking: That they've won 4 in a row or that they shutout the Habs to do it.
