$9.99 a month for the new PPV's alone is a steal let alone everything else you get. It's utterly ridiculous that WWE Network is flopping.

Everybody prefers getting to Wing House at 4pm, holding a table for 8, ordering a coke, then sitting there until 8 pm when the ppv starts.

I'm gonna get it when I move. So sometime in August. You are correct. Lots of Americans are cheapskates. I don't think that's why the Network has flopped. I think outside of people like me who didn't get the network due to prior financial commitments but will when they can budget for it just don't think there are that many fans in the United States who want to get the network. Maybe another 100,000 give or take. Not nearly enough to get to the 1.5 million people WWE feels they need.

UK is supposed to start it up soon, aren't they? Sure that will help. I think pro wrestling in general is bigger over there than here.

Wrestling is a very niche form of entertainment over here too, and most people's thoughts about it are similar to Americans. People in their 20s look back fondly at guys like The Rock and Stone Cold, 30 year olds about Hogan and Warrior, 40s and older about Big Daddy and Giant Haystacks. But most of those people don't watch wrestling now. To scale, wrestling's popularity in the UK is probably similar if not less than in America.

It could be a number of things, such as paying for different subscription services like Netflix, Hulu Plus, X-Box Live, etc. Right now, I don't have cable and just have X-Box Live and Netflix, so WWE Network would be perfect for me.

I read the thread title and thought this was going to turn into a Lana-type promo. "Americans are cheapskates...unlike the generous, benevolent Vladimir Putin!"

Or you know, a lot of people aren't so into wrestling that they need all of that content. I've had it almost since the beginning and the only things that I've watched are the live PPV's and the Warrior documentary, some people can't justify getting it for such little use.

I'd make the argument that it is utterly ridiculous WWE felt the network would be a success. Given that their top program draws around 4 million plus people each week and they feel they need at least 1 million to turn a profit on the thing.

What's the point of a PPV if you don't get the build up shows? No RAWs make PPVs pointless.

$10 isn't much.
But when you are spending $100 a month for cable and internet and $8 a month for Netflix that extra $10 on your entertainment costs can be a deal breaker I suppose.

$9.99 isn't much. It's that *With 6 month commitment that has me going "nope." I don't always have an extra $10 in my bank account. At least for Hulu and Netflix when I can't pay, I just can't use it until I pay. That doesn't happen with a commitment tagged to you; it doesn't become "just pay it again and you're right back into it." It turns into "you can't cancel, so you're screwed."
Never understood the justification for that. If they're scared people will just pop the $10 in for the PPV and immediately cancel, they don't understand people who pirate. They're not looking for low-cost options, they look for NO cost options. And considering they are no longer technically selling the PPVS individually to watch except for DVDs, instead wanting you to forego PPV and just go with them, no one is that dumb to think "Oh, I'll show WWE, I'll purchase it on PPV!"

I don't think it's a flop at all. Yes, the estimated subscriber count (667,000) isn't as high as Vince thought it would be, but we all know how much he loves overestimating things. (See: The fluctuating attendance figures for Wrestlemania III, the recent "double our TV deal" debacle, etc.) And I know the stock lost value and whatnot, but that was at least partially due to investors falling for the bullshit "AMC to buy WWE" newz article. We also have to keep in mind that we're a good portion of our information from the dirtsheets, an entire enterprise that thrives on cynicism and negativity, We won't know anything concrete until Vince or George Barrios directly addresses it.
In short: While it isn't perfect, having two-thirds of a million people subscribing to what is essentially, as Akeem alluded to, a niche product isn't all that bad a place to be.

I think the main reason WWE is losing money on the Network is that they stupidly launched it with it only being available for purchase in the United States. There's a reason the first W in WWE stands for World.
I also think that it needs more original programming like Legends House and not just old wrestling footage. Old wrestling footage is cool but there needs to be more variety in what's available to watch.

There's a reason the first W in WWE stands for World. I don't agree with this. Doing it the way they did they've been able to simplify the initial launch without having to account for foreign rights situations, support, and all the other expenses associated with a worldwide launch while still enjoying money from international customers subscribing via IP majicks/fake addresses. I think WWE sees the WWE Network as a long term proposition, and expect it to accrue customers and become (more of) a profit source over time..

$10 a month for live PPVs is an awesome deal. I wish they would show Raw at least the next day. I do enjoy Legends of Wrestling, old WCW, but I mostly have it for the PPVs.

If you buy at least 2 PPV's a year, not getting the Network is insane.
