Interesting dilemma now for the Cubs - do we pay off Rick Renteria and go for Joe Maddon, or do we keep faith in Renteria to advance us? Personally, as good a job as Renteria did this year, when an experienced manager who's been to the World Series and kept such a small market team competitive for years becomes available, you take him. Maddon with Theo Epstein's backing and all the talent coming through, it may not be long until the Cubs become a National League force. I think the Cubs silence on the matter speaks volumes. If there's any way they can make this happen, they will.

Sigh...shame. Just a kid, unfortunately he made a huge mistake and he and another had to pay the ultimate price for it.
Doesn't make it less a tragedy, just makes it something that could have been prevented.

I just had a wave of emotions come over me after thinking about Oscar Taveras and I had to express my feelings. Of course I was stunned when hearing about Oscar's passing, and I already made a post earlier in the thread saying that. But I was not emotional until I teared up watching MLB network and seeing the dates 1992-2014. Of course that is too young for anyone to die, but that really struck me because of the fact that I became a die-hard Cardinals fan when I was 8 years old in 1990, 2 years BEFORE Oscar was even born. I became a Cardinals fan because my dad was a Cardinals fan and like so many people he was a Cardinals fan because he grew up in Memphis and KMOX radio reached all over the country in 1950's broadcasting games. Baseball was always the one thing that my dad and I had in common and as passionate as I was about Cardinals, he was even more so. I remember in 2002 when Darryl Kile passed, he cried, and he was not one to cry much. Of course Darryl's passing was the first thing that came to my mind tonight when I heard this news. I lost my dad in 2009, it was during the baseball season, in fact one of the last things he did was watch a Cardinals/Dodgers game. My mom says he wanted to call and tell me about it since I didn't have cable at the time, but since the game was on the west coast, it ended late and she said it would probably be too late to call. He died of a sudden heart attack the next day. Needless to say, I couldn't really enjoy any games the rest of that season without thinking of him. Time passes and wounds heal, and I've come to grips with his passing to where I think only of the good times and not sadness of not having him around anymore. But the emotions that we put in watching games together came flowing back when I saw that date. Those people that think that sports are "silly" and "just a game," don't understand the bonds and the emotions that you have with your team, and how baseball, more than any other sport, connects the generations. Now I didn't know Oscar personally, but as a Cardinal fan of 25 seasons, he was one of my guys, therefore part of my family in a way, I mean he wore the same hat that 8 year old me wore in the backyard with my dad playing catch, and that means the world to me. So for that, he will always have some small place in my heart. Thank you for sharing that.

A Red Sox insider told Bill Madden of the New York Daily News that the Red Sox coaches "all hate" outfielder Yoenis Cespedes.
"He marches to his own drum," said the unnamed source.

The Red Sox are going to trade Yoenis Cespedes in the off-season and then these "unnamed sources" (you know who I'm referencing) will have another fresh corpse to defile via their patented smear campaign. I wonder what it's going to be this time. They already used drug addiction and philandering against Terry Francona, maybe they'll say Cespedes fled Cuba because he's wanted for murder or something.

Wonder how he'd feel like playing with 2 other Cubans on his team. Cespedes for Latos as the centerpieces. Reds won't be able to afford Latos (f***in Homer Bailey....arrrrrghhhh)along with Leake and Cueto after next season. Might as well trade one now and plug a huge hole in Left Field and middle of the order RH power.
This will give the Sox a legit 1b/2 type starter that's only turning 27 this offseason.

Hey, guess what happened 10 years ago tonight. Hey, guess what happened 28 years ago tonight. As little 19 month old baby HMark looked on, slightly frightened by how loudly his parents were yelling and jumping up and down (seriously, it was my 19-month "birthday"). I have all the DVD collections of Mets games that have been put out over the past few years, but I get chills every time I watch when Ray Knight hits the big homer in Game Seven. That crowd is insanely loud, the type of noise that only Shea Stadium could produce. Good Lord, I'm dying to experience that.

Hey, guess what happened 10 years ago tonight. Hey, guess what happened 28 years ago tonight. And that was the best part of 2004. No longer were we constantly reminded of all of our postseason failures. We no longer had to hear what the price of milk was back in 1918. The losses in 1978, 1986 and even future disasters like the 2011 collapse stung less. Sure we were saddened and angered by them but they no longer defined us. And that's the best part. Future Sox fans like my nephews won't have to grow up with that burden. Many Sox fans feared that they would die without seeing the Red Sox win the Worls Series. Now we've seen them win three in a decade and I hope to see many more. Sox fans kept the faith and we were rewarded.

Red Sox manager John Farrell said on MLB Network Radio on Sirius XM on Tuesday that a recent report that the team's coaches dislike Yoenis Cesepdes is "completely unfounded."

And Jonathan Coachman just got the biggest babyface reaction ever in his career by donning a Kansas City Royals World Series hoodie.
God, I hope they win tonight. I am perfectly happy being cooped up watching Game 7 instead of having to visit a cider mill.

I was hoping they would trade him for Cespedes No offense or anything, but the Red Sox traded Jon Lester to land Yoenis Cespedes. I can't possibly imagine them then turning around and dealing him for a nothing hitter who, at best, would be the poorest man's Adam Dunn.
