I was in Chicago a few days ago, for the first time ( I drove around hoping to see that Phil Brooks fella, so I could heckle him a bit ). Great city , Had a complete different vibe from every other major US city Ive been to. Now about the pizza - First off let me say I am from Queens ,ny Ive had pizza all over Queens, Manhattan & Long Island - some parts of Brooklyn , I can honestly say we have some great pizza. We New Yorkers are a proud people , so it really pains me to say , I had the best damn pizza of my entire life in Chicago , hell it may have been the best damn meal I have had period. you win this one Chi-town

Best pizza I've ever had in my life came from Giordano's in Chicago.

I don't have a city preference, just a crust preference, which is thin. And I've had thin crust pizzas from different places that are meant to emulate different city styles. So, yeah.

As a New Yorker I personally prefer Chicago style.
New York pizza can be great if you got a good recipe and put some effort into it. The problem is 99% of pizza places in New York (including the more famous, high-end ones like Goodfellas) put absolutely no effort into it. They just throw some sauce on some bread and sprinkle a little cheese on top.
Chicago style DEMANDS effort. You can't half-ass something like that.

There are two types of deep-dish here in the Chicago metro area:
-The classic "pizza pie", Arrenello's in Highland has a fantastic 3" thick deep dish. When a big eater like myself can only manage up to three pieces, you've done something right. -The wraparound "stuffed crust" from Key Pizza in Hammond. All your toppings are in the crust, you might have a 6" diameter center but the rest of this bad boy is stuffed crust goodness.

Chicago style pizza is great, but it can get expensive. Dominos is my routine pizza.

Which is why I prefer Chicago pizza as well.

Chicago style pizza is great, but it can get expensive. Dominos is my routine pizza. Domino's is not pizza. Domino's is a generic knockoff that is a disgrace to the name of pizza. If you prefer Domino's, you have not had real pizza and have lived a very sheltered, deprived life and for this you have my sympathy. And to the OP-NY shall forgive your transgression this time. If you do it again, NY shall break your kneecaps.

It's all a matter of preference because both styles are great. I've had both. But I always will say that Chicago deep dish is better.
I will say though that I've learned that Chicago deep dish is really a once or twice a year kind of thing, because of how heavy and demanding it is on your wallet and stomach. But it is so so so so sosososososososo worth it when you you eat.

I'm an equal opportunity pizza lover. People that only choose one type and denying themselves one of the pleasures of life I prefer my pizza to be pizza and not a limp, greasy slab of sauce and cheese. Chicago pizza wins on that one (for me at least).

New York all the way. Never cared for deep-dish pizza.

If you do it again, NY shall break your kneecaps. Dominos' pan pizza is not bad. I am a proud Italian-American and always go for the "real" experience when I can, but I don't pretend that something made of dough, crust, sauce and cheese and baked in an oven isn't pizza just because a chain made it and the quality isn't as good as a restaurant that charges triple for the same basic product. I'm an equal opportunity pizza person. My favorite kind of pizza overall is probably 4 inch pan pizza topped with cheese, but I like Chicago, New York, Sicilian-American, Neapolitan, or whatever kind is available if it's prepared right. That's the beauty of pizza. So many kinds of ingredients and methods of preparation that there's a million different ways to make a good pizza. One thing I've never had that I'd like to try is Scottish-style deep-fried pizza.
