Now, I'm not a subscriber, but I have heard that WWE hasn't released everything in their library on it. My question is: why not? It seems to me that that would increase subscribers if everything they owned was on there. It's a similar issue I've had with Netflix. I mean, if everything's moving to streaming, then why not just do away with renting physical DVDs? Then again, I'm of the mindset that if I really wanted a physical copy, I would buy it myself.

Well, if there's everything you wanted to see on there right away, you'd probably burn through everything in a month or two and get bored with it.
I too have netflix, but I've seen pretty much everything I wanted to see and don't use it as much as I first did.
Also, too much content is a bit overwhelming and makes you not want to start.
I have a bunch of shows on my netflix queues that I saw that looked interesting, but I don't feel like investing that much time into something new.

Also, WWE's archivists still haven't finish digitizing everything. Also, the mess that the other companies made of organizing their video libraries. Plus scrubbing out unlicensed music.
Also, figuring out just how to pay everyone involved with all these shows.

People won't stay subscribed to a product that can no longer really expand in ways certain audiences desire. If you give people everything now, you have nothing offer up in persuading them to stay subscribed.

They shouldn't put EVERYTHING on at once, BUT I don't see why they don't offer some of everything. Do we need Raw and ECW on several times a day? Get some NWA on there, and the AWA,UWF, and some of everything. They're pandering to their 20-30 something year old fans, when I can easily afford this network and have no problem paying the monthly fee like some have complained about, but they're not trying to cater to me so I won't subscribe.

Two reasons that have been touched upon.
One, is the expense. Digitizing everything, changing all the music they don't have the rights too, and hosting all that footage.
Two, is they want to continuously make announcements of new stuff that's been added - to get people talking, get people who may have cancelled to sign back up, and get subscribers who feel like they've "seen everything" to stick around longer. Someday, they'll had huge chunks or the entire series of Nitro and RAW. They want that to be a big deal that will drive new subscribers, not just something that's packed in with everything else. It would get stale in a hurry if all they added for years to come was the new stuff.

I read recently that they have approx 150,000 hours of footage in the library but so far only 40,000 of it is digitized so 2/3 of their footage isn't ready
Plus like others have said, if they put all the content up at once they people would be more likely to cancel after burning through everyone they want to see I imagine

Is the idea that people will "Burn through everything" realistic? If they have lets say 20 000 hours of footage on there, that would take you 800 straight days of watching to get through everything.

Also, too much content is a bit overwhelming and makes you not want to start. It's the same problem I face with every new GTA game. When given the option to do ANYTHING, I usually wind up doing NOTHING.

i think the network could benefit from some sort of viewing guide. y'know, "if you want to see the key parts of the hogan/andre feud, watch these shows." It would help the incredible amount of content come off as a lot less daunting. release a new one every few weeks or something.
i also think the live stream could benefit from a chat. it'd give slightly more reason to tune in live than at least

I don't think having all of their content up at once is necessary, but they should be pushing hard on the backlog of Raw episodes. It'd be a big selling point ("Watch every single episode of Raw on WWE Network!"), and it'd give the PPVs already on there more context.

According to WWE, only about 25 percent of their library has been 'digitized' in order to be put on the Network.

This is pretty much how I feel. I don't want everything now but I want more variety. I would love to see 1 or 2 AWA shows a month or even an episode added a week of WCCW.

Why did WWE wait so long to start digitizing their library? I get that they didn't originally plan for WWE Network to be a VOD service and they'd still have to edit and add captions, but they could've been starting it years ago.

Because their library is MASSIVE, and there probably isn't any realistic demand for most of what they don't have on there. Nitros and Raw, sure they should add those. Old episodes of WCW Saturday Night from 1999 or Velocity? Most subscribers wouldn't notice they weren't there.

I completely understand how huge their library is and how long it must take. It's just they could've had a better start on the more popular stuff like Nitro and Raw, especially the Attitude Era years which they're always so hot on.

I'm pretty sure they started digitizing everything a long time ago considering their 24/7 service and started putting stuff on wwe.com and youtube. It's just sooooo much stuff.

I'm perfectly fine with them rolling things out little by little. I just wish they didn't come to a complete stop on things...like Hardcore TV.

I agree, they probably started recording digitally and on film from the mid 2000s. As someone who does not have the Network yet for geographical reasons, has any of the pre-2008 footage been upscaled for HD (as much as they can with archival material) or shown just as it was when it originally aired?
