I don't mind when I hear it now and again, but when Cole has to say it every time the guy shows up, yeah, it's annoying.
"Hey Michael, have you seen Dean..."
"THE LUNATIC FRINGE! OH MY!"
"...Malenko around?

They should make him begin modelling his career on William Perry and call him the Lunatic Fridge.

I think it's too wordy. It reminds me of the name Jeff Hardy went by for a minute. "The Charismatic Enigma" Jeff Hardy just sounded like bullshit and I stopped paying attention during the word "charismatic." "The Enigma" Jeff Hardy sounded a lot better. I really liked when JR shortened it. It made him sound like a superhero. I liked CM Punk coining "The Charismatic Enabler"

You think that's bad? The Spanish commentary calls him the "Half Lunatic", being aware that Ambrose is crazy but he's half crazy instead of being whole crazy. He's certainly not Super Crazy.

It's the same thing as Kofi's Controlled Frenzy.
What kills me is that not a single person outside of Michael Cole willl use a term, then after he's said it 5 weeks in a row he says something like "and as we like to call him, the Lunatic Frrringe", and I mentally throw bricks at his voice through the television set.

Booger Red. Who decided it was okay to call The Undertaker a booger? Well, the person who did it was probably aware that "booger" means monster in older Southern American English--a derivative of boogey man(booger man or just booger)--but they were seemingly unaware that in more modern times it universally means a hardened ball of snot. I only ever use it to mean monster because I feel that it is my linguistic responsibility to keep it alive. So, Jim Ross. Had to have been Jim Ross.

I don't mind it at all really, Cole sounds like a cartoon character whenever he mentions it and it actually describes Ambrose rather well. Bonus points for the humorous hair jokes that come from it. Sounds like a cookie cutter Michael Cole soundbite, like "controlled frenzy" or "vintage". USO CRAZY! USO CRAZY! USO CRAZY!

It's better if you think they're talking about his hairline. I really really like him too...but eventually that hair has gotta go. He's been hanging on for a while now. He's gonna look like Paul Heyman in a few years.

It doesn't make much sense. Since a Lunatic Fringe is someone in a group. WWE is a group WWE is a "sports" league and a literal acronym. Dean Ambrose calling himself "The Lunatic Fringe" alone makes about as much sense as Animal calling himself "The Legion of Doom".

I always heard it as "Lunatic French" and assumed Ambrose had french ancestries. It all made sense when Ambrose run out like a coward made a strategic back down from the Wyatts that one time.

I don't like it, it's too long, like the people would have trouble chanting, just call him Lunatic

To be fair to the WWE, didn't the nickname start 6 months or so before the Shield broke up? Sort of a strange hangover, I agree it seems daft but if you do take it as Cole (in his own irritating manner) saying 'he's the most irrational & crazy person out of a roster full of characters and demons!' I think it works. I mean, I'd prefer subtlety and constant development of ideas/names, but I hold out no hope for that form the 'E.
