This independent contractor bullshit has come up with some awful names, if they want to crack the asian market, Kenta is perfect, rolls off the tongue easy and will sell merchandise. Japanese people know who he is new name or not. He got a regular name that easy to remember and not offensive. Remember Hirohito? People got so used to Yoshi Tatsu that they forgot his real name. Folks are either going to accept the name or just call him Kenta anyway. Curious as to what a tax designation has to do with WWE naming conventions and it's trademarking of names for likeness rights but......yeah.

Hideo Itami is just fine. It's pretty memorable and thankfully not stereotypical. We all thought Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins were dead in the water when they initially had to give up their bingo hall indy names and undergo the FCW name generator and thy're doing just fine.

I can only assume his hero is Hideo Kojima. Every one of his ladder matches will have "Snake Eater" playing in the background.

I find it hilarious that WWE recently had the trend of cutting names to just one word, then when they sign someone with a rep that has a one word name, they give him a first and last name.

I always heard that the Wrestlers could decide their name if they had one, like daniel bryan for example, who was given tons of stupid names by the wwe, but in the end created one that worked for him Willnt surprise me that some wrestlers came with stupid names thinking that their idea must be the most creative and awesome name there It was said that Hero is the one that came up with Kassius Ohno so yeah... He came up with Kassius Ohno BECAUSE WWE wouldn't let him just be Chris Hero. Why can't WWE just call the wrestlers the name they've always been known as. In a perfect world, Daniel Bryan would still go by Bryan Danielson.

You know, I've never really hated any of the "renamings" we have gotten in the past couple years. Even Kassius Ohno, which so many seemed to have hated, was alright with me. We have come to know that the talent does have a hand in picking their name, so we're not getting anymore "Lift Sawyer" or even "Scotty Goldman."
Honestly, I have gotten perfectly used to Dean Ambrose, Seth Rollins, Sami Zayn, Adrian Neville, (Antonio) Cesaro, Solomon Crowe, Kalisto, and all the other independent talents that have gotten new names. None of those names are bad at all; they're just different than the ones we knew them by.
Although we would love it if El Generico was going against Samuray del Sol and Tyler Black and KENTA in an NXT ring, what's important is that the guys and gals themselves are in NXT.
Hideo Itami is not a bad name, and soon enough even the most staunch independent fan will come around I think, because they want to support their guy or gal. This is not an era where indy guys are signed and tossed out there to fail. I have faith that Triple H is bent on all of these guys succeeding. So when we eventually hear of Steen and Devitt's new names, I'm sure there will be an uproar, but that roar will pale in comparison to the roar of joy from seeing those guys, along with all the other names mentioned above, tearing it up in an NXT, and eventually WWE ring.

Kassius Ohno would still had the same type of run in FCW/NXT as Chris Hero. Same for Bryan. People have to realize that a good majority of people never heard of these people before WWE. There are people on this board who never seen Kenta wrestle in a match.

How does one pronounce Itami anyway?

But either way, I doubt guys care what their name is if they're known something else in other companies. Just means they have a new name/character to get over.

Just used Punk as the example for why they don't let wrestler's use previous names. Now they are in a position where the rights to the name of the main character in story mode for their upcoming game isn't their's. That's more royalty money out the door that they wouldn't have had to let go otherwise.
