He came up with Kassius Ohno BECAUSE WWE wouldn't let him just be Chris Hero. Why can't WWE just call the wrestlers the name they've always been known as. In a perfect world, Daniel Bryan would still go by Bryan Danielson. See Punk, C.M. C'mon man you know why they won't let wrestler's keep their original names. They are protecting the rights to a character while on WWE Programming. I know why. But I don't think it's right. I wanted to see "KENTA" in WWE. And now I'm disappointed in what Steen, Devitt, and Willie Mack are going to be called down the line. I hate when established guys have to be called "Barclay Pinkerton" or some BS like that. If WWe HAS to do this, they could at least give these guys a name close to their well established Indy name. I have the same issue with WWE originals that build a following under a certain name and end up getting cut. They are most known as <insert name here> and not allowing them to use the name they're most known as affects their ability to find work on the indies (at least in a promotion a decent amount of people actually knows exists). I wish WWE would stop doing this.

I said it in the Takeover thread but it's just going to be weird to me to refer to him as anything but KENTA. I don't even think the new name is bad, KENTA is just much better IMO.

I would have just gone with Itami. It's weird for him to go from a one word name to a first and last name. Hell, WWE's typical M.O. is to cut guys down to just one name.

Don't care because I don't follow indies/foreign promotions/anyone without a US TV deal. Barely even watch ROH. As long as he has it all together when he debuts on the main roster it's all good.

Too bad Andy Warhol isn't alive or WWE could have contracted him to name their Superstars like he named his "superstars' who hung out at his "art factory." Names like:
Candy Darling Penny Arcade Billy Name Paul America Etc.
Or Harold Ramis, who gave us movie character names like:
Lacy Underall Sgt. Hulka John "Brother Bluto" Blutarski Stork Egon Greg Marmalard Etc.

It doesnt sound right. Hideo and Itami are fine, but together they sound awkward. Bad

Hideo also means excellent man, Itami also is a city located in Hyōgo Prefecture, Japan I was almost willing to sign off on this until this added to it. At least WWE did it- they managed to name a wrestler Excellent Man Pain.

They can call him Samurai Chinaman (obvious satirical ignorance) for all I care just let him still keep kicking ass like he did tonight, the chair move at the end was straight badass.

His new name should either be Yoshi-Tats-Two, or Johnny Pow.

Man, Hideo's mic skills impressed me. He started learning English what, a few months ago? Judging how well he did there I have to say wow, he's improving very quickly. He's smart. Besides that, his charisma and his attitude is better than a lot of guys they have in NXT. He seems so natural when he acts out even to the small stuff he did.
He's adjusting very well. He has a bright future.

KENTA is a good name, chantable, I think they messed with a good thing. He of course could succeed with any name, but Hideo Itami is just a fairly ho-hum name I'd say, with respect to Hideo Kojima. Kinda like the Japanese equivalent of naming him Lance Riggs or something.

I wonder if the NXT crowd will try and get "Hideo killed the radio star" over as a chant.

I'd like to find out what the story is about it first, if it really is in tribute to someone.
On the plus side, Itami is very chantable as Kenta was in turn. Hell, so is Hideo, but Itami is catchier.
This isn't Baron von Ruthless here.

I like it. Sounds pretty cool and is easy to pronounce. Plus Itami means pain or ache in Japanese, makes it sound badass. I don't mind name changes if they are good ones. Seems in the past few years they have been creating much better names compared to the old FCW Name Generator. Only recent names I can think of that bug me are Kassius Ohno although I did think the KO initials were cool and Mojo Rawley but he bugs me in general.

I would have preferred something simple and recognizable like "Akira".

Maybe his name is a tribute to cinematographer Hideo Fujii known for The Adventures of Milo and Otis:
Maybe Vince was watching an old copy and saw his name in the credits and decided, "yeah let's go with that!"
