I think the chauvinism element is overstated. Connery's 007 was, but that was the 60's. Moore to a certain extent. I don't think Timothy Dalton or Pierce Brosnan were. While MAD isn't exactly high-brow, it did feature a comic about how Bronsan's Bond was very PC and much more 90's than prior ones when Goldeneye came out. I was fairly young at the time but at its release there was a buzz about how the new Bond wasn't the old Bond.

I don't like Sam Smith at all but was willing to give the song a chance. It's awful and full of the usual Sam Smith warbling. Florence Welch can get away with this but Sam Smith just can't pull it off. It just sounds like he's trying to show off the whole damn song. What a wet blanket. Skyfall by Adele (who I also don't like more because of the music rather than her voice) I hated and heard on the radio way too much to the point I got massively sick of it. Once I saw Skyfall though and the opening credits it clicked for me do hopefully this will as will. Smith's voice doesn't "warble" any worse than Tom Jones's did. It's the same singing style, for pete's sake.

It's a different style. Tom's voice is deeper and more grandiose. It suited Bond. Thunderball was a superb song. Sam Smith's voice is too high for a Bond song IMO. You CAN have falsetto and make it work, like David McAlmont's voice when he did a cover of Diamonds Are Forever, but in this case, I just don't think it works.

Writing on The Wall (My Opinion): Incredible orchestral arrangement...mismatched vocals. Sam Smith is a super talented singer no doubt about that, but his high pitched voice simply does not work here.
Still better than Madonna though.

OFFICIAL VIDEO IS NOW OUT and i've been singing it ever since it came out, pretty much know the lyrics now ..... and i LOOOOOOOOOOVE IT!!! i'm upgrading from 07 to 000007 for this so achingly beautiful and soulful still finding little cues in it too, up to yesterday, and it almost heart breaking in it's storytelling ..... i just about keep it together in that second verse it's subtle in it's POWAH, but hit those high notes and it soars!!!!! still stops too soon ..... but that little drum roll at the end ..... from a 6half to a NINE

Being better than Die Another Die is setting the bar pretty damned low.

The Jonathan Ross special just finished airing on ITV. I don't know if this is a new nugget of information (it is to me), but one of the Bond women is {Spoiler}Mr. White's daughter. Aside from that, no new clips, they just showed stuff from the trailers about 87559596 times, and Craig was non-committal to whether or not he signed for a fifth one, just that Ross had been told he did, but he would'nt confirm or deny. No interview with Batista either.

Good news for 007 fans, the first reviews are coming out from the UK press screenings for Spectre and the general consensus is that's a damn good movie, with some saying it's better than Skyfall.
Reviews are out on Twitter, although I'd be careful because some of them spoil the surprise return of a character in the opening sequence.
And for die hard 007 fans, there's some good news about the gunbarrel...

I do wish sometimes Brosnan had been given better material during his run. While I don't hate The World Is Not Enough like some do, it isn't to the level of Goldeneye, and Die Another Day is just garbage, not through any fault of his.

Connery basically raped a chick in one movie, and I say this as someone who loves the early Bond films but Connery Bond got quite rapey at times

That said, it's been years so I wasn't sure if he explicitly raped her in the film like he did in the novel, hence my understatement, but yeah, Bond was a horrible person, even outside the yo-yo'ing on whether or not he gives a crap about murdering people. Some films have it flippant, while others have him rationalize it. In either case, if we're supposed to take all films as things that happened to one singular Bond, he's one of the most dangerous humans to ever live in his universe, and I don't mean in the way that we're supposed to take away from these movies.

Can't remember which one it is, I wanna say Goldfinger, but he pins the girl down, she says no, he keeps her pinned down and the she submits and f***s him. I hadn't watched the Connery Bond movies since the glory days of TBS 007 marathons in the 90's until recently and some of the stuff Connery does is really shocking. Like strangling a chick with her bikini top for information. Also, I cannot recommend the James Bonding podcast with Matt Mira and Matt Gourley enough. It's those two with one or two guests each episode doing a 90-120 minute breakdown of each film.

Whats Batista's character name in this one? Is he another Jaws, Mr. Kidd/Mr. Wint, Stamper tier henchman and be around for the whole film and get a spectacular death scene or is he going to be on screen for a small bit and job to Bond in a matter of minutes?

Mr Hinx I believe is the name, and as far as I know he's supposed the be the main henchman.
