Whats Batista's character name in this one? Is he another Jaws, Mr. Kidd/Mr. Wint, Stamper tier henchman and be around for the whole film and get a spectacular death scene or is he going to be on screen for a small bit and job to Bond in a matter of minutes? Mr Hinx I believe is the name, and as far as I know he's supposed the be the main henchman. Now we really need a Mr. Hinx, Mr. Kidd, & Mr. Wint Stable

Just came back from Spectre: {Spoiler}It was a pacey movie, plenty of globe-trotting, with a B-plot taking place in London (or is that "C"-Plot? Heh heh), that ultimately joins with the A-plot. Along the way there are connections made to every previous Daniel Craig movie and we even get a surprise cameo from Judi Dench, as a video message sends Bond off on a rouge mission to kill a member of SPECTRE in a spectacular helicopter fight (helicopters get featured a LOT in this movie), which triggers the termination notice of his grieving widow, who then shags Bond, gives him some info, and then just drops out of the movie.
Batista unfortunatly does'nt get a lot of kills under his collar as Hynx. He only seems to kill the guy who was originally slated to off White (who offs himself when Bond vows to protect his daughter), along the way he plays the traditional hench role well, in the sense that he comes up short pursuing Bond by car, failing to kidnap Swann, and ultimately dying on the train.
Waltz is a highlight, relishing the role of Blofeld (and yes, Mr. Biggleswort...I mean, the cat, DOES turn up), the bit with Bond getting the sonic probe in the ear was a unique bit of torture
As with Skyfall (and the car was originally fitted for 009), Q's gadgets for Bond follow the simplistic route. A explosive watch gets Bond out of a scrape and destroys the big bad's lair, it also gives Blofeld the Plescance scar.
Also good to see Q play a role abroad with Bond and get into his own scrapes.
Film's big threat is quite simplistic too..and again goes back to those themes of all the Craig films of keeping tabs on the world and how that is a cautionary tale for all of us about who we're really letting monitor our lives.
Ending with Bond combing the old M16 building for Swann and then going after Blofeld's helicopter felt like it was advertising the last two stages of an old PS1 Bond video game. I was more interested in what Max was up to.
Considering how the movie ends, with the Double 0 programme shelved and Bond going off with Swann, I was hoping that White's daughter would reveal her mother had remarried and taken the surname of Tracey's family. Every other piece fit that puzzle, why not that one? Decent little follow up, a bit more focused than Skyfall

Just got back, happy to say it's a really good film! Feels really classic yet new at the same time. Spoilerooni's: {Spoiler} Obviously Christoph was Blofeld! Was even more obvious than Moneypenny in Skyfall. He had a really good energy to the role (happy to see his cat too) but the conclusion felt more like the beginning than the end...
Batista was really good in his role. Wish he got a few more kills under his belt; the first was really well done. Slow, deliberate, then getting the tissue out to wipe the blood. He had a good death too.
Sad to see Monica Bellucci get such a small role after all the hype for her character. Her putting on the opera music to head out to what she thought was her death was a really done moment. And she looked damn beautiful.

For a split second there, I thought that was a pic of Batista with my older brother.
He apparently looks a lot like Shane. *shrug*

Pretty good but not one I'd put up there with the better ones.
7/10
After AOU & Spectre being disappointments I hope Star Wars doesn't too

Just got back from seeing it. It was okay, if a bit by-the-numbers. Far better than Quantum of Solace and Skyfall though.
Bond was actually somewhat likeable this time around, and Batista did a good job as what was essentially an oversized Oddjob. The torture chair scene was really nasty, they did a good job on that.

As good as you can get for a Skyfall follow up. Skyfall is still my favourite but my god did I have a good time with this amazing film. I am a bit biased though as I am a massive fan of Sam Mendes/Lea Seydoux and love the fact that Batista is in it. I think Batistas background in wrestling really helps his presence in films, as soon as he walked in he knew how to carry his character as menacingly as possible. Going to spoiler here on out {Spoiler} LOVES I found it a perfect way to end this saga of Bond films, whether this was Craig's last one or not. The continuity and the way it tied it all together with the characters and settings. The way it tied all 4 Craig films together was really great story telling The way Blofeld's character was slowly built up with all the important character elements. The cat, the scar etc etc perfectly played by Waltz. Was happy to see him survive as well. The settings. I always describe Skyfall Mendes' loveletter to old Bonds and I felt this did the same. Incredible locations and one's that felt inherently Bond the moment you were introduced to them. Great performances all around by the ensemble cast. Everyone did great Léa Seydoux is easily the most beautiful Bond girl ever for me. The moment I saw her in Midnight In Paris/MI:GP I was gobsmacked by how beautiful she is. Was so damn happy when they announced her for this film and she certainly paid off, I hope she gets as big as she deserves to be in Hollywood in the future. Taking my biased opinion of her out of the equation, I think she truly played one of the most respectable and most well rounded Bond girls ever. She was portrayed as strong, had a character/personality, had a reason to be there other than eye candy, bounced off Bond well. The action sequences start to finish were spectacular. So well done. Yet again the opening credits graphics are in a league of their own. It was up there with Skyfall's one. SF and Spectre have truly taken opening credits to the next level not only in Bond films, but in films as a whole. LIKES Cinematography. Although I have seen much, much worse cinematography you could tell that Rodger Deakins was not doing cinematography this time around (he was cheated out of an Oscar for SF, he created a truly wonderful colour pallet for that film). He just added so much to the scenes where characters were just talking, which was lacking here despite the incredible settings. Batista getting killed off as early as he did. Like in GOTG he owned the screen, and he truly has a place in Hollywood now and has proven he is a worthy actor. They had a lot to fit into this film and I understand why they needed to kill him off half way through, but I wanted him survive a little longer. Everything Else Sam Smith. I just...no. I am biased because I didn't like him or his music before this anyway but IMO that was a truly terrible Bond song. I mean no offense to anyone who likes him, I can understand why someone should, but to me him and his music grates on me. Trying wayyyyy too hard going from so high pitched to so low, it was a mess. I wish it would have been Lana Del Rey, Florence and The Machine or Michael Buble etc etc. I do really look forward to where the franchise goes from here. Especially with the studio auction over it and with all signs Daniel Craig leaving and not adding anymore films to his contract. Two thumbs up for me. As good as it can get as far as a follow up to Skyfall and my expectations once they announced what I feel was the perfect cast

As someone who loved Skyfall and Casino Royale to death while thinking Quantum was not as bad as most thought...I was underwhelmed. One non-spoiler thing (really) that I hated is that Bond pretty much never had a scratch on him after being repeatedly beat down. In the other 3 with Craig, he at least realistically looked like he was put through the ringer. This he comes off like the Terminator.

That was...underwhelming.
Some really awesome action scenes though (the open, train fight) but I thought the plot was overall pretty weak and the ending completely anticlimactic.
The reactions within my group were variations on "not that good", "Meh" and "good enough, I guess".

The pre-credits sequence was fantastic, so it had me pumped from the get go... Until that awful title song kicked in, at least. My main criticism of it is that everyone is just kind of there. Craig seems to be on paycheque mode already, and Scott was pretty much just playing Moriarty still. Batista was sorely underused, and Waltz just wasn't given anything to sink his teeth into. The whole thing felt more like a setup for the next movie, rather than what appears to be the swan song for Craig's Bond. However, I did appreciate them taking this back into more traditional Bond territory and using a few of the classic Bond tropes.

I too liked it, from a technical & Acting standpoint it was astonishing but the writing was poor (weak story, Pointless & underused characters, terrible pacing, 3rd act was awful)
Out of 24 i'd put at #16 (I did my own ranking order) below "Tomorrow Never Dies" & "World is not enough", All 3 for me are the in the "Good movies but not faves" camp.
Jeremy Jahns pretty much shares my opinion
It's funny we had 6 spy movies this year and I found Bond to be one of the weaker ones
- Kingsman - Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation - Man from U.N.C.L.E - Spy - Spectre - American Ultra

That poor Aston Martin though....

I really don't get the "old Bond tropes are back yay" thing. Mission Impossible 4 and 5 both have done the type of older Bond attitude than any Bond movie in the last...f*** if I know, 45 years maybe. Trying to mimic that attitude produces this, which seemed like a lesser Rogue Nation rather than part of the new Bond type that was a fringe between the older ones and the Bourne movies.

I said in another Bond thread (or maybe this one) that the M:I films have been doing Bond better than Bond for years now. There's definitely way too much Bourne influence in the current Bond and I want them to do an honest-to-goodness Connery-style Bond adventure set in the modern day world.
