Sonny Gray has a little something going through 6 vs the Rangers.
Aaaaaaaaand I turn the tv on right as the no hitter is broken up in the top of the 8th. I'm a jinx.

I switched over right as the A's commentator was gushing, and the single was hit. Commentator trailed off mid-sentence with "...ohww." I felt his sad face through the TV.

The Nats inability to score runs will be their downfall again this season. If any team can score 2 runs on us, the game is pretty much over.

Why is there an off day already? Mets are playing in the same spot.
Makes no sense.

I don't get it. At all. It's kind of a small horse, I mean what am I missing? Am I crazy?

While I've been pleasantly surprised by Adam Silver's reign as NBA commissioner, Rob Manfred so far seems like Bud Selig 2.0.

Mejia goes to the 15-day DL. Hope he's good to go when he's eligible to be taken off.

Maybe Familia. His stuff was pretty nasty yesterday. i honestly don't trust him especially since he's struggled before Statistically speaking, Familia was better than Mejia last season in a lot of departments. Familia's problem was getting lefties out. Besides that, it's not the end of the world for two weeks: Mets already had an 8 man bullpen, and will have more than enough talent in AAA and on the big league staff to weather storms as the season goes on (plus Black and Parnell up by May). Jenrry's pain not being structural is a huge win for the organization. As for what they should do now, personally, I don't want a closer. The entire concept of a closers and saves is outdated and desperately needs to be done away with. Look at how Terry handled the bullpen yesterday: it worked out fine, but he had Torres come in for the 7th, dude cruised to a 10 pitch 1-2-3 inning with 3 weakly hit grounders. He then takes Torres not, not to pinch hit for him (pitcher's spot didn't come up for the Mets in the 8th), but instead because, since it was the 8th, Familia now had to come in. Why? Well...he's the "8th inning guy", so that's his role, right? Even if it means you had Torres get up and warm up to pitch a short inning, and thus potentially not get to use him in the next game (I know, day off today, but it happens all the time anyway)? I hate how lazy bullpen management has become. No inning is more important than another; obviously the 9th has the caveat of being "last licks", but a game can be determined in any inning, and your best best to win is to play the matchups as best you can, not to just push a button and say "Well, that's our 7th/8th/9th inning guy, so that's his role, end of story". If the game looks like it's going to hinge on a major moment in the 6th inning, I want my best pitcher in there, especially when the 9th inning could just as easily wind up being your "closer" facing #6-8 in the order.
