Kutner in House. IIRC the Actor was offered a job working for Obama and accepted, so they had to write him out. They decided to have him commit suicide despite there never being the slightest hint of the character having any such issues. I know they then explained there was a darker side to him after the death and not all suicide victims show the "usual" signs but it seemed so rushed and half-assed. Ah, that was the example that was hounding me, couldn't remember it but knew there was a perfect one. I get that they tried to do something with it, but it was so clumsy and transparent, it was probably when I knew I had moved on from being a fan of the show.

May not be the same case because she didn't leave on her own accord, but Charisma Carpenter. Got fired from Angel after getting pregnant, then her character hooked up with Connor in that insane storyline, and then she dies off-screen. The way that whole thing went down kinda changed the way I look at Joss Whedon, tbh. In fairness, he kills off about 90% of his casts anyway so it's hard to say if it was done out of spite or not. I know you're exaggerating for effect, and for sure Joss is known to be cool with killing, sometimes in random unexpected ways. But core cast members (people listed in the opening credits) for the most part are probably closer to 90% safe in his show than 90% dead. And to me his handling of death is a strength of his writing, never feels like he goes overboard with it. But I'm also a fan of Kill 'Em All Tomino (the classic Gundam guy). (The gent with the Gundam sig above me knows what I'm talking about ) And I think George R. R. Martin has by far surpassed our buddy Joss in being a prolific killer of prominent characters these days with Game of Thrones being big. And Kirkman for Walking Dead. On the topic question, a lot of these examples didn't stand out as poorly done to me. I didn't know about most of these actor disputes, and in a lot of cases I don't think I would've noticed. Any Walking Dead character, Tasha Yarr, etc, didn't stand out as odd to me. But it is true it can be a tough thing to write around a cast's availability. Anyhoo, I say Joss better kill some peeps for keeps in Avengers 2 or he officially loses his grim reaper cred.

Was there an explanation of why Laurie randomly looked different on That 70's Show?

Was there an explanation of why Laurie randomly looked different on That 70's Show? The first actress has serious drug issues and was arrested at the time I think. She's been in and out of rehab and jail since then.

Save by the bell was just oddly put together in general. Like how the original gang graduated but the next season they do the Tori season and people try and pass it when Kelly went away for the photo shoot and I forgot where Jessie was. Yet some how everyone got older? The story plot never made sense in that season. Trying too think about other shows. I can't remember if they ever explained Pamela Anderson Character being replaced by Heidi on Home Improvement. Pamela Anderson did come back for an episode, I figure they explained it there, though I don't recall what the explanation was. IIRC, she got married and became a paramedic or something

Eko on Lost. They had big plans for the character, but the actor didn't like Hawaii and wanted to leave. So, Eko got killed off.

If anyone here ever watched Degrassi, JT's actor decided to leave the show to focus on College. The writers responded by having him violently stabbed in killed off, because that's High School!

How on Earth was this character not mentioned in this thread? {Spoiler}{Spoiler}{Spoiler}{Spoiler} Hey there children, come on over so we can MAKE LOVE. I think they were entirely in the right on that one. Well, the whole thing was that Isaac Hayes left because of the Scientology episode. Later on, Matt Stone and Trey Parker decided to do an episode where Chef returned and they killed him off. Plus, Matt and Trey used stock footage for Chef's dialogue, so Hayes didn't provide any voice work for that episode.

How on Earth was this character not mentioned in this thread? {Spoiler}{Spoiler}{Spoiler}{Spoiler} They killed him off in a bad way and really how else can you save the character when the voice of chief passed away not long after he left the show in the first place. I mean yeah maybe they could gotten another actor too do his voice but at the same time Issiac Hayes made it so it would kind of been weird to have someone else do it. Just like all the Phil Hartman characters on the Simpsons.

Making that episode after he died would've been in bad taste, even for them.

Peter Serafinowicz voiced Darth Chef at the very end of the episode. I'm still waiting for Darth Chef to return.....

I never heard this, but it sounds very similar to why Jon Bernthal left after the season two firing of Frank Darabont. Did you mix the story up or did Jeffrey DeMunn also decide to leave for this reason? I can't imagine him having a bigger contract than Bernthal despite his character actually lasting much longer than the tiny Shane arc of two issues. The show obviously saw Shane as a co headliner. I've never heard either of these and I feel I'm a pretty big fan of the show. From what I've always heard, it was simply their time, and Shane's character was in the show much longer than the comic. I'm fully aware as a comic reader myself. However Darabont had a vision of Shane lasting much longer. After hearing the rumor he ended up joining Darabonts TNT MOb City show so I always assumed it to have some truth despite the fact Shane was destined to die eventually.

Suicides out of nowhere are usually just terrible writing I quit watching Rescue Me after Chief committed suicide I think because Dennis Leary disliked the actor.

I figure Darth Chef will return on the final episode and burn the town to the ground. Someone needs to buy land outside of Denver and set up a 'remains of South Park' area for tourists. Lay out how the town would approximately be set up, pave some roads and rig up some ruins for people to wander through. Millions, I tells ya... it'll make millions...
