Nikki will never appeal to a female audience. She's a bitch. That's been her character for her entire WWE career, and it never works, despite WWE's insistence on constantly pushing that type of persona. The tomboy is the tried and tested persona. It worked for Lita, it works for AJ. The eye rolling, "talk-the-hand" bullshit will never draw female fans. Except I can easily go on a site like Tumblr and see people admiring Nikki. Just because her character is a bitch doesn't mean it can't be admired. There are no defined character traits of who can be admired. She'll have her fans here and there, but if they want wider appeal, the mean girls persona won't do it.

I agree that women don't need women in wrestling to enjoy it but there's no doubt it helps. When I was in my pre-teen/early teen year, Stephanie, Trish and Lita were my heroes. They were strong characters who were allowed time to get over on TV. It's not difficult. And their willingness to allow Lita to get over the way she did made them a LOT of money. I think at one point she was the #3 merchandise seller in the company. People rooted for her because they gave people a reason to root for her.

the success of all female indy promotions like Shimmer and Shine disproves that. What success? Shimmer is a niche product. They havent even drawn 1000 people before. They are only drawing about 250 people at their shows in Chicago. If people really gave a shit about womens wrestling, then they would be drawing more then 250 people.

They have their own show...it is called total divas. I felt sick typing that that.I won't mind The Divas wrestling show, hell NXT itself makes a great job. Total Divas is faux reality crap. They need a proper wrestling based show. They could give it a year long test run. See how it goes. Yeh,that was joke there for me total divas would never be a thing

As much as you all would hate to admit it, Total Divas kind of made their popularity go up. I think there should be a lot more TV time for all of them. Hell my mother who is an E! addict loves to watch TD. She once turned into RAW to see them in action, and ended up changing the channel because she never saw any of them. I am sure there are a lot of other reality show addicts who have tried to check out RAW or SD just to be disappointed that besides the fact that these women are given their own reality show, they get zero time on air for their actual talent.

Deeply embedded in pro wrestling is a history of men being terrified that people will think everything that's happening is totally gay. Reassuring male fans that what they're watching is totally no-homo is way more important than actually getting women to watch. Because if women start watching, you-know-who might start watching, too.
Listen to what people say about Dragon Gate in Japan. It's pretty successful but totally marginalized because women and gay dudes like it. Sad.

AJ isn't much different in terms of being a bitch though. Also a nice majority of the people the Twins rt on their twitter are females who are wearing their merchandise AJ is a bitch to other bitches. And how exactly is that better? She ain't exactly a role model in kayfabe, bullying other divas, sleeping with top stars to get to the top etc. All the shit she calls the Bellas out for doing, she does as well.

If you watch more than RAW and the PPVs you'll see that the Divas get plenty of time to wrestle. WWE ain't just RAW, ya know.
But yeah, I'd like to see them get at least 10 minutes in the ring each week on the main show.

Just out of curiosity for this discussion, how did the Raw that Trish and Lita main evented do ratings wise?

I always think there is a fear by those in power that the females will make the males look worse in comparison, so they cut the legs off of the division.

And AJ got her GM spot by breaking up with Daniel Bryan, not by sleeping with him.

But she wouldn't have gotten anywhere near the position without the wedding, the whole triangle with Punk and then betraying Bryan.

It's not like AJ was thinking, "I'll sleep with Bryan and Punk, and then I'll become Raw GM because of it". That's just how it turned out, but that wasn't her motive for being with them.

I think I've said this before to you or something like this, but AJ alone isn't going to be the only girl that becomes a role model for other girls. It's kinda cliche to say AJ is the only female role model because of her personality or how she looks. We can take say Nikki and automatically think that because of the way she looks and acts on TV that she would be a terrible role model, but when you take the time to look at some of the stuff she's being saying about her and her improvement, she's showing that you can be both beautiful and successful at the same time. That's not to take away from AJ as she too in the same category, but her beauty differs from Nikki. Yes, you do need toys for girls because from birth, most parents are going to buy their daughters pink and purple things and those little girls are going to grow up and develop that pink and purple toys are only what they should play with and not think that they can play with any toy. The same can be said for little boys. I'm a female and Nikki appeals to me. Yes, the old one dimensional mean girl character sucked, but I like the whole tough, fearless character they have transitioned her to. I think it works for her and I think there is room for someone who can be tough and beautiful, ala Trish. I will admit that for me Total Divas has been the best thing WWE has done for some of these girls. Before the show I didn't care for any of them because they didn't give me a reason. At least on TD we get to see their personalities. Heck its part of the reason I'm an Uso fan as well. Jimmy is gold on that show. As is Daniel Bryan. But my point is, saying that Nikki would never appeal to a female audience is just as wrong as saying that only AJ can appeal to a female audience or only Naomi or whoever. We ladies are just as varied as men and different things/people appeal to us just like it does men.

And I highly doubt the Bellas both thought "Man, I know, I'll sleep with/marry this dude, seeing as he's the main star and get propelled to new heights!", especially considering Brie 'n Bryan were dating before he'd even had a sniff of the main event IIRC. Yet people give 'em shit for it, including AJ.

Certainly nothing near what they need to build a division on.
