I went with V. The controls from IV and V kick the rest of the series ass, which pretty much automatically disqualifies them to me. Though I wish GTA V had the same map as San Andreas.

GTA V is also superb I love Trevor. I really do. An amazing character. Trevor is actually my least-favourite character in the franchise, which is the only reason V doesn't top San Andreas for me. I just don't find anything redeeming about him.

San Andreas is still my favourite.
I enjoyed V, but the story was a let down for me. I really enjoyed CJ's story in SA. Thought the side characters were better, too.

Vice City. It improved on III and was far more compact than SA, less stretched out.

3 and all the ones that branched from it are great.
V is the one I played the most because there was just so much to do, but 3 will always have that place in my heart.

San Andreas > V > Vice City. GTA3 has aged horribly and IV got weighed down in inane crap, a poor plot, and weird vehicle controls.
But these days I prefer the Saints Row series.

San Andreas, just really due to how it feels like the most complete story of the franchise.
I appreciate how V tried to amp up the whole nihilism angle of the GTA series, but I just can't get into the modern-day games. I always have the hope that GTA VI will be set in the 70's.

My top three are 5, 1 and 4 in that order for me.

I only played around with Vice City and San Andreas-if they kept making improvements, but kept the 80s theme of vice City-I would buy every one of them

I have to go with GTA V. It really improved on all the complaints 4 got. I loved pt.4(especially with Lost/BoGT add ons) but the missions got very repeatative and the whole tone of the game was a downer. With GTA 5, almost every mission feels like an action movie. GTA V is also superb I love Trevor. I really do. An amazing character. Trevor is actually my least-favourite character in the franchise, which is the only reason V doesn't top San Andreas for me. I just don't find anything redeeming about him. There's nothing redeeming about him. He wants to get rich by being a criminal, selling people to cults and do drugs. He's very honest about it though. Also there's a point about halfway through the game where I'm always like "Shut up Trevor" every time he talks because it's all just yelling...but then before I know it he's back on my good side.

I really enjoyed LATD, then Trevor came along and made it all a bit pointless. I didn't like that. Then I didn't like it when Fear3 came along and killed the protagonist of Fear2. Didn't help that Fear3 was crap as well.

Johnny made it all pointless by following Ashley and her meth habit to San Andreas. {Spoiler}His weakness is what killed the Lost MC, not Trevor.

Vice City was the most fun while San Andreas was the best(before GTA 5). My vote is Vice City but all 3 of those are really close.
