So, as wrestling fans our tastes evolve. You might totally be into something as a kid that you hate now, or vice versa. I know my tastes are totally different from when I was younger. What are some things in wrestling you've changed your mind on?
Me? Stiffness. I used to be all about big, mean smashing each other's head in type stuff. Nothing made me happier than watching Low Ki kick the beejeezus out of people. Now, I just see it as missing the point of the art. I got into really snug mat wrestling (Evolve has this amazing group of mat wrestlers now who are bringing back an awesome mat style) and that manages to look a million times more realistic while also not legit battering dude's, so I no longer need the crazy stiffness in my life.
And sort of linked to the above, MMA influenced guys. I don't even know why. I like my wrestling pretty serious, and I love snug awesome mat wrestling...but I just sort of roll my eyes now when I see guys doing clearly MMA styled stuff.
You guys?

I barely watch wrestling specifically because I'm sooo tired of evil authority figures.

Being mad that Cena is in eternal push mode. He draws. Money rains down from the ceiling when he is on the road. He is good in every way that counts. I'm done being mad. It makes sense to feature him. One day soon he will be gone and we will have a new pariah

Chairshots. The attitude era desensitised me to them and now I wince knowing about the harm concussions have caused to the wrestlers I grew up as a fan of.

Dudes going through tables. It's just boring to me now.

Dudes going through tables. It's just boring to me now. I realised that about myself too while watching Ambrose/Wyatt. I just don't care about table spots much any more. I like them in some matches when it does add to the match but honestly most matches with table spots that I still like are rewatches of old matches that hooked me in already like Dudleyz/Hardyz at RR2000. These days I get way more out of storytelling and psychology. Mick Foley is my favourite wrestler but he has an amazing knack for making a hardcore match have some psychology so the spots matter rather than just being spots, and honestly my favourite matches of his aren't the largely trainwreckish ones, but more the ones like the Michaels match (that has a table spot and a chair spot that actually matters worth a damn) rather than the HIAC 19998 bollocks. Similarly I am now much more into something like Punk/Cena at MITB 2011 than I am into hardcore matches. Me? I am now ambivalent with stiffness. For me if both guys LIKE each other and are on board with stiffness, then do what you like. I love, say, Japanese matches where everyone knows they're going to be stiff and they're fine with that. I am even begrudgingly okay with watching old stuff with chairshots to the head if the guy eventually stopped taking chair shots and has wizened up now (again, citing Foley as an example - the second chair shot at Royal Rumble 2004 is absolutely terrifying but I live in hope that Foley is going to turn out okay, and it's old footage; people still doing chairshots to the head now? Cut that shit out.) If you're doing shots to the head, then fake it. WRESTLING IS FAKE. Do a Rock, get your hands up. I mean come on, in real life if someone was hitting you with something you'd get a hand up anyway. As for another example of what I'm over, beampole, fake-titted blondes. But then that may be not so much something I'm over in wrestling as from the late 90s/early 00s in general.

I don't need to see blood ever again. I'm fine revisiting the stuff I've already seen, but at this point, even seeing older violent stuff I'd never seen before is just unsettling to me considering all we know about blood-born diseases now.

Divas in thongs. They did it so often that it lost its OMG appeal.

I came here to say this one. Nigel McGuinness' anti-blood campaign has completely changed my view on it.

Ladder matches. With WWE doing so many of them, sometimes twice on one show, I'm perfectly ok not seeing another one.

Definitely stiff matches. I wish I could enjoy Ishii more, but I'd rather watch the Super Juniors at this point.

Chairshots, ladder matches...honestly, gimmick matches in general are kind of done, for me. I am far more interested in plain wrestling matches that tell interesting stories, and my interest drops once weapons are brought in.

Obvious plancha spots where a handful of dudes stand there shoulder to shoulder like retards on the outside for too long.
Announce table bumps. It's happened literally thousands of times now. It means as much to me as a powerslam or backbreaker.
The dumb ladder match spot where it takes some guy thirteen minutes to get up the thing because the other guy is either blown up or missed his cue.

I'm not over the hardcore stuff (although bleeding should be done sparingly and chair shots should never be to the head again and if they are, they must be protected with the recipient's hands guiding the chair), but I am over the "ring full of plunder" approach to hardcore matches. I love how CM Punk and Daniel Bryan took a minimalist approach to using weapons in their WWE Title match at Money in The Bank 2012. They used one chair and one table in the match and it made it look a whole lot more believable and was more fun to watch than "Let's just hit each other with weapons until one weapon strike arbitrarily puts you down for the three count!"

Hardcore and Deathmatches. I used to love watching Foley, Raven, Sick Nick Mondo, Kudo and Funk. I found they were great at hardcore/death matches. They had a psychology to them and the way they used moved made them stick out a tell a story.
With all that is known with concussions and the wave of wrestlers passing away way too early it has really killed my appetite of hardcore/death matches.
I do enjoy good hardcore matches and when done correctly can tell a great story. I find most "hardcore" matches today simply consist of two guys knocking the crap out of each other/mutilating each other with very little rhyme or reason.

Apron spots. If you're going to do an apron spot at least use it to end the match. I'm looking at YOU, AR Fox.

I would prefer blood not be used at all but if it is used, it should be done in feud-ending matches and should be done with the utmost care when it does happen. The days of guys getting busted open in every match at every PPV are over and they should stay that way. As someone pointed out earlier, Nigel's story and the bullshit that's coming out about Abdullah the Butcher has soured my view on how prominent blood was back in the day.
I'm also over gimmick matches that are booked on free TV out of nowhere as a ratings ploy. It doesn't bring in any more viewers and that's not what they're for anyway.
