Yet Sorry 2004 remains timeless forever. 2003- 2014- I'm still glad it's not 2008 anymore though. What once was two thousand and eight is now so two thousand and late.

1995 was a pretty god damn awesome year for music when you look at everything released that year. For me, this is the awesome:
Radiohead - The Bends Foo Fighters - Foo Fighters Smashing Pumpkins - Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness Blur - The Great Escape Oasis - What's the Story? (Morning Glory) Pulp - Different Class Garbage - Garbage PJ Harvey - To Bring You My Love Supergrass - I Should Coco Fugazi - Red Medicine Bjork - Post No Doubt - Tragic Kingdom Teenage Fanclub - Grand Prix Primus - Tales From the Punchbowl The Tea Party - The Edges of Twilight Also had things gone to plan, 1995 is the year Manic Street Preachers' The Holy Bible was due for it's American release.
That's a killer group of albums. Maybe its not the most fondly remembered of years, but it certainly didn't suck.

Ugh. Freshman year.
Well, Green Day's "Insomniac" came out in March of that year (I think). That was memorable.

'You Oughta Know' had the cheapest-ass video maybe ever, If you understand the finances of having a record deal, this should not surprise you in the least. Damned near everything about that record suggested that they were trying to save money, at least at first. The record was recorded in a very short period (saving studio fees and cost of engineer). They did get some well known guest musicians (members of the RHCPs is what first comes to mind), but since things went quickly they probably did not cost too much for their time. Most of the videos were done fairly cheap (Ironic's video required hiring a director and renting a small camera that could be mounted in four spots on the director's old car, said old car, half a tank of gas, and little else).

Blurs Great escape album turns 20 this year, I still remember purchasing that as a kid.
Not their best album although Country House is still a great tune
The Universal of course gets used on the British Gas ads... Even though I loved Blur as a kid I was never a fan of that tune.

This was the number-one song when, after many nights of trying and not getting through, I won my local radio station's "Top 8 at 8" contest. Starting at 8 PM, the DJ would play the eight most requested songs and then the tenth caller had to read them back, artist and title. I remember that the night I won was a "Thirsty Thursday"--the winner had a choice of a pack of Pepsi or a pack of beer. Being in sixth grade at the time, I didn't have much of a choice! I also got my first CD from this contest, even though my family didn't have a CD player yet.
This August will be 20 years since I saw my first WWE PPV in person. Now THAT makes me feel old.

Youtube was not working for me for a spell, so I just now was able to watch the video. Here is my in-depth analysis (because you know you wanted it): 30) Oasis - Champaign Supernova I loved the song when it came out. I still feel it holds up. 29) The Cranberries - Ode to my Family I really never caught this one when it came out. It is not as good as Linger or Zombie. 28) Weazer - Buddy Holly This is more like it. This was one of the songs I listened to a lot. Like all Weazer songs, it never gets old. 27) Gin Blossoms - Till I hear it from you I did not mind the song. I must admit that I thought it was a little older. Can't say that I would go out of my way to listen to it, but I would not change the channel just because it comes on. 26) Shania Twain - Any Man of Mine I loved this video SOOOOOO much. I watched it on mute, however. I don't mind country music, so long as it is GOOD country music. 25) Real McCoy - Another Night Well, my wife (then girlfriend) liked it, so I heard it far more often then I would care for. 24) The Pretenders - I'll Stand by You It's okay. I like their older stuff better. I had no idea that they had a hit so recently. 23) The Rembrants - I'll be there for you Thanks to Friends it is a song that will never go away and will earn royalty checks for the band until they are old men. Fortunately, it is a decent song. It's not the best TV theme song from the 90's (both Buffy and Highlander had that beat), but it was better than pretty much the rest. 22) TLC - Creep This album was the first gift I ever got my wife. She was pretty pleased about it. She also played it a lot when we came home from dates. Needless to say, just hearing this song stirs me in deep ways. 21) Bruce Springstein - Secret Garden This is another song that makes me think longingly of my wife. We tried to watch Jerry Maguire several times before we were able to finish the whole thing. What can I say? We were young and in love. 20) All 4 One - I Can Love You Like That I recognize that they were great singers, but the song isn't my cup of tea. 19) Bon Jovi - This Ain't a Love Song I call bullshit on this one. I like Bon Jovi just fine and don't mind the other song being on the list, but how is this on the list and Bullet with Butterfly Wings not show up at all? 18) Bryan Adams - Have You Ever Really Loved a Woman This song, however, I love. Bryan Adams is awesome and I will fight anyone who says otherwise. 17) Fool's Garden - Lemon Tree I have never heard this song before in my life. 16) Ice Mc - It's a Rainy Day I have never heard this one either. Am I getting trolled? 15) Mariah Carey - Fantasy I rarely get into Mariah Carey's songs, but many of her videos are worth watching (especially if they involve her riding a roller coaster). 14) Michael Jackson - You Are Not Alone By the time this had come out too many rumors about his possible predilections for young boys had gotten around for me to enjoy this song. There are few songs by him now that I do not envision his singing to a 8 year old boy, and this one is no different. 13) Scatman John - Scatman Meh. It's okay. Why did someone place it so high on this list? 12) Sheryl Crow - All I Wanna Do I liked the song fine enough. I did think she was rather attractive as well. I would swear that this song came out before 1995 though. 11) TLC - Waterfalls See entry for Creep. I liked Creep better, mind you. 10) Bon Jovi - Always I was happy to see at least one hair band make a successful transition to adult contemporary band. This song was decent enough, though I don't think it was the 10th best song of the year. 9) Edwyn Collins - A Girl Like You This is a pretty good song. Has he done anything else since then? 8) Coolio - Gangsta's Paradise This song was pretty mindblowing for me. It still holds up. 7) Green Day - When I Come Around Like any other Green Day song - It's okay. 6) Madonna - Take a Bow You know what? Over the years Madonna has had some AMAZING songs. I really like this one. 5) Seal - Kiss From a Rose It is still a great song. 4) Michael and Janet Jackson - Scream See my earlier entry on Michael. I just cannot pay attention to the music. 3) Take That - Back for Good I don't care about this song. I just find it astounding that the immensely entertaining Robbie Williams was once in a boy band. 2) Shaggy ft Rayvon - In the Summertime OK, now I am sure I am being trolled. This song sucks. His other song from that year, Bombastic, did not. 1) Alanis Morrisette - You Outta Know Wait, 1995 is when this dropped? How in the hell is this the only entry in this list??!! I don't feel like doing too much research right now, but didn't a lot of that stuff come out in 1994? I agree with you on the Bryan Adams song. That song from the Robin Hood soundtrack is remembered more but I think Have You Really Ever Loved A Woman is far and away a more beautiful song.

I went to the Summerland tour they did a few years ago with 90s alt rock bands (Everclear, Sugar Ray, Gin Blossoms, Lit, and Marcy's Playground). I must say Gin Blossoms were the best band there just hard to think that they've been around so long.

That song from the Robin Hood soundtrack is remembered more but I think Have You Really Ever Loved A Woman is far and away a more beautiful song. To be fair, I think a number of them probably came out in late 1994 and were still on the charts (and possibly peaked) in 1995.

A lot of these sound older than 20 years. That Cranberrys song, Another Night, that Pretenders song, All 4 One are like old men de-aged into teenagers. Bon Jovi trying to cash in on that Aerosmith ballad trend. And then later going for srs Guns N' Roses feel! LOL at that Springsteen song, that is the music form of the drizzling shits. Loving the Mariah, damn I was in love with her. Still a good song that feels good in all those childlike, nostalgic ways. Creepy Michael Jackson phase, this was really confusing times for a 9 year old. I like Sheryl Crow trying to be sassy...not really her game, but it was cute. Don't remember that Edwyn Collins dude at all, but that song is pretty cool. Kiss From a Rose is great, still. I love when it's used in a parody fashion, but it's damn good just playing it straight. HEART it From You??Creep is the best song on the list. Waterfalls is second. TLC f***ing owned in 1995. Closest to them was Scream, Gangsta's Paradise, Kiss From a Rose, and the winner is an alt. rock classic that can't be denied.

The weird thing about really anything that came off of Jagged Little Pill is that as far as I can tell, no alternative station these days plays anything from that album that hit big. If I were to tune into the alternative station here, I'd bet you that you'd hear pretty much everything else that hit big around that time. Shit, I bet you'll even hear Blues Traveler occasionally but Alanis is a big fat nope. One thing about the Cranberries is that aside from Zombie, at that time, I didn't dig them at all but throughout the years, I'd say they've aged well.

You Oughta Know is one of her most aggressive songs, and it's not rock enough for the rock stations that are playing Metallica and Motley Crue all the time. It's too pop for alternative rock stations, and it's definitely too rock for the pop stations like Kiss FM, etc.

There was a time that every other song on the stations I listened to was Dave Matthews Band. I think that the music holds up and in fact should mix well with most of the alt rock stations in my area but never, ever get played. I would say that being huge successes must have disqualified them for an alt station, but they have the Rod Stewart and other Hall of Fame acts on their rotation.
