Even if the NFL takes draft picks from them, I really don't think they care. If they do take draft picks, give em to the Jets. Lord knows they need it

People are actually calling for Robert Kraft to fire Bill Belichick. This is really turning into the dumbest thing ever. Yeah, why would people ever call on someone who has repeatedly been caught cheating to lose his job. Insanity!

Bill could have been the one to kill those guy Hernandez killed and he'd still be welcome at every bar in New England. I would laugh my assignment off if he gets the Rice/Peterson treatment.

Honestly, the only thing about this whole non-issue is the fact that it provides the knuckle-dragging, mouth-breathing, paint-chip-eating Spygate loonies out from the shadows and gives them more fuel, so whatever the result is in Glendale in two weeks, they prove their point.
If Seattle wins...I KNEW THE PATRIOTS COULDN'T WIN WITHOUT CHEATING. THEY ONLY WON THOSE GAMES BECAUSE OF SLIGHTLY-DEFLATED FOOTBALLS.
If New England wins...WHATEVER, IT DOESN'T MATTER, THIS CHAMPIONSHIP HAS AN ASTERISK BECAUSE THEY CHEATED.
As a Patriots fan, I'm disappointed that they again felt the need to get footloose and fancy free with the rules when they really didn't have to. As has been said, they could've played the AFC Championship Game with a brick and still won by 30. And in 2007, that team was a juggernaut and would've gone 14-2 or 15-1 or 16-0 with our without videotaping signals.

Has anybody said thats the reason the Colts lost? Every article I've read, and everybody hear seem to be saying, "Yeah, they would have been destroyed either way, but a cheater is a cheater."

I get asking the owner to fire him is stupid but who else you gonna ask? The NFL isn't going to toss him and no one will force him out, so you put pressure on ownership no matter how fruitless it is.

The more I think about it, this kind of feels like a lesser version of when Jets strength and conditioning coach Sal Alosi stuck his knee out on the sideline and tripped up Dolphins gunner Nolan Carroll.
It couldn't be proven that it was a team-wide conspiracy and ultimately Alosi was the only one who took the blows for it, even though Rex Ryan and Mike Westhoff had to answer for it.
Ultimately, I can't conceive of a way in which the NFL could conduct it's investigation and point the finger squarely at Bill Belichick. Some underling ball boy will bear the brunt of the blame, because its got to be nearly impossible to prove Belichick, or any Patriot player or coach, maliciously deflated the balls.

They'll probably get fined and lose draft picks because that's in the rulebooks. I'd like to see Belichick get suspended during the Super Bowl as that gets him right in the pride where he probably doesn't care as much about the money or losing (at least) the second-to-last draft pick in the first round. And some Patriots fans will continue to be white knights and stans for their team, using every weak-ass excuse to diminish or hand-wave what happened. And that's what amazes me about this entire thing. Was Bill Belichick that paranoid to think the Patriots couldn't completely dominate the Andrew Lucks without cheating? And let's be clear: the Colts would've gotten their asses kicked that day no matter what, which I think makes their cheating look even worse in hindsight. Joe of WFAN's Joe & Evan called him the NFL's Richard Nixon and it's a pretty apt comparison. Both didn't need to do unsavory acts to win over their far weaker competition, yet they still do it because they're paranoid control freaks. And ultimately it tarnishes their legacies. Yeah, if you look through this thread you will see multiple posts by me that said that I did not believe that the Colts could get to the Super Bowl unless the Ravens beat New England. I knew that the Colts could beat any of the other teams in the AFC side of the playoffs, but I had little faith in them winning in Foxboro. I did get a little more hopeful when I saw that a monsoon was going on because I expected the Patriots to ram Blount down our defense's throat and if it was raining so much the ball might be slick enough to cause some fumbles on the Patriots side of the field and give the team a chance at a lucky victory. Obviously, that did not happen but when balls are deflated by at least 2 lbs of pressure they are far less likely to get fumbled in the first place. What is really disgusting to me is that the Patriots were clearly the superior team going in, had already spanked the Colts in Indy this season, and still felt the need to cheat.

So apparently these footballs were tested at halftime, when the Patriots led 17-7. After halftime, the Patriots outscored the Colts 28-0. But yeah, footballs that were deflated by 2 psi is TOTALLY the reason the Patriots won. As I said Monday morning, my reaction to this whole issue is as follows: FAAAARRRRRTTTT NNNNOOOOIIIISSSSEEE. They took a couple of the Patriot game balls out of circulation, but virtually all of their game balls were under inflated by ~15%, so that 28-0 run was played with deflated balls as well.

So the officials were aware of under inflated footballs but chose to use them instead of pumping them up? If that's the case, shouldn't those officials be held accountable? It's like pulling over someone who is driving a car that was reported stolen, but the police officer simply hands him a speeding ticket and tells the driver to be on his way.

That's pretty much what I take from it as well. As a Colts fan, and to pretty much anyone with eyes, the Patriots are a much better team than them. The cheating, if it did happen, just creates a blight on a legacy that was in need of being cleaned up. Even if the Pats win the Superbowl, and while I still think Seattle will win I think the Pats have a 45% chance of winning, this doesn't help anything.

It's like pulling over someone who is driving a car that was reported stolen, but the police officer simply hands him a speeding ticket and tells the driver to be on his way. The way that the protocols seem to be set up is that the officials inspect the balls 90 minutes before game time, approve them or not, mark them if they are approved, and then return the balls to the teams, after which the rules strictly state that the balls are not to be altered after they are inspected. I don't think that there actually is a protocol in place on how to deal with things if the officials discover that all of the game balls are altered. You can bet any amount of money you want that there will be protocols in place by the start of the next season, however.

Yeah.........I can't defend this crap. They did it, they got caught........they are going to have to deal with the consequences (maybe take a first rounder from them for repeated offenses).
This off-season, they are going to have to change the rules to make officials be the ones who bring the balls.
I will also say that no matter what, if the Patriots win the Super Bowl, the people that said that the Patriots cant win the big one without cheating can cram it.
